As expected, Blonde Bombshell, a “sustained an injury, vanned off” in the 8th at Santa Anita Friday, is dead, as confirmed by the CHRB. (I say as expected because when the chartwriter adds “injured” to “vanned” it almost always means death.) Blonde was five years old, and this was her 14th time under the whip.

So maybe saying a FATALLY INJURED horse was placed on the Vet’s List for “Unsoundness” will work better than saying “Musculoskeletal” but for how long? That’s so goofy besides demented.
That’s why I follow all the antics of the super-credible, high-integrity California Horse Racing Board:
They won’t even pretend to give an answer to any question, demanded or not. They’ll just go into one of their super-secret meetings, call it a Closed Session, and grumble to one another about their latest Cal Racing Crisis and how to make it go away.
How are they going to answer questions about her “unsoundness” in case anyone demands an answer? Everyone knows what deafening silence means, don’t they…?!
The CHRB flew into super-evasion mode the very second poor Blonde Bombshell took her final, fatal steps late Friday afternoon at the SADT. The esteemed Board knew they had time on their side — they don’t acknowledge horse kills over the weekend — so they immediately put her on the Vet’s List. Fine, right? (Few knew she’d been killed, at that point, and it furthered the false hope that she had survived.)
But WHY was she listed there? Not because these high-integrity “regulators” needed to keep her from being raced, for her own protection; she was dead, after all. And, not because she’d been “Injured,” as even the chartwriter conceded. No, she was listed there — not kidding — for the stated reason of “Unsoundness.”
This should worry the high-transparency CHRB, but it won’t. It just begs the question, “How horrific an injury must a racehorse in California suffer to be listed as INJURED in their public database?” Apparently, an inoperable broken leg isn’t injured enough.
The laws regarding Animal Welfare and Animal Cruelty need to be enforced in this despicable industry at these racetracks in California.

It’s an injustice that these morally depraved people are allowed to operate “above” the law and are allowed to abuse their power as well as abuse and kill horses as disposable gambling chips.
