5-year-old Ice Love broke down training at Finger Lakes this morning and was euthanized on the track. I actually knew about this one before the Commission disclosed it. A witness reached out when it happened, saying that after Ice went down and was euthanized, she was “taken to the back area and dragged off the wagon onto the grass at 9:43 am and still lies there at 10:30 am.” Just as would happen in any other sport, right?
Also: I’ve always said that while the Standardbreds aren’t killed as often as their Thoroughbred and Quarterhorse cousins, they do indeed die, but worse, their servitude (and by extension, suffering) typically lasts longer. Wednesday, Admiral was injured at Monticello and euthanized the next day. His age? 13. Bastards.
How do people become so desensitized to horses being raced to literal death that they can stay in this despicable industry? The members of the racing and gaming commission have to have hearts of stone. That is not a compliment in case the apologists were confused.
