“Both front limbs: numerous comminuted fractures with the complete destruction of the bones.”

Through a FOIA request to the Oklahoma Racing Commission, I have confirmed the following kills at Remington last year. Because of the volume, I am posting in installments (previous ones, and also reports for Fair Meadows and Will Rogers, can be found here).

(Please note how the Remington chartwriter is utterly covering up the carnage there.)

Frosted Prayer, Mar 10, Remington T
“Severe, acute, complete mandible [jaw] fracture.” Frosted was four years old.

Everything She Aint, Mar 10, Remington R (same day as above)
“Both front limbs: numerous comminuted fractures with the complete destruction of the bones.” Again, that’s “numerous comminuted fractures with the complete destruction of the bones” in both front limbs. Also: “both carpal joint capsules ruptured with large amounts of hemorrhage.” Just picture that devastation. Now, consider that this poor girl was but two years old, and this was her very first time under the whip. The chart, by the way, merely said, “bad step midway.” Nothing else.

Ec Redbones, Mar 12, Remington R
“[Multiple] severe, acute ligament ruptures.” Also: “chronic gastric ulcers.” Ec was three years old.

Wagon N Treasure, Mar 12, Remington R (same day as above)
“Multiple acute, severe, complete, comminuted vertebral fractures with disc rupture and spinal cord compression.” Also: “chronic gastric ulcers.” Wagon was two years old. The chart, by the way, merely said, “failed to fully fire.”

Sweet Tea Red, Apr 1, Remington S
“This animal was reportedly thrashing in its stall prior to death. I suspect this is the cause for the numerous hemorrhages affecting the head and neck region. Likely aortic rupture.” Sweet Tea was four years old and had last been raced Mar 6.

One Fabulous Memory, Apr 6, Remington R
“Numerous acute, severe, comminuted vertebral fractures with spinal cord rupture – several fragments of bone project into the thorax.” One Fabulous was two years old, and this was his very first race. The chart, by the way, merely said, “bad step, lost rider.”

Lil Bit Relentless, Apr 6, Remington R (same race as above)
“Acute, severe, complete carpal fracture.” Also: “Tooth 201 is severely fractured with nearly no architecture remaining.” Lil Bit also was two, and this was also her first time under the whip. Her chart note simply read, “in tight early.”

Hot Lookin Eagle, Apr 7, Remington R
“Severe, comminuted fractures [both knees], bones severely fragmented; extensive soft-tissue hemorrhages.” Also: “chronic gastric ulceration.” Hot Lookin was two years old. Broke both knees. The chart, by the way, merely said, “in tight, altered course.”

Rip Wheeler, Apr 15, Remington R
“Collapse [in gate]. The lung hemorrhage is typically consistent with exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage. However, as this horse never left the gate, it [the collapse] may be related to severe stress.” Also: “severe avulsion, with the sacrosciatic ligament completely torn from the ischial tuber.” Rip was two years old. That poor, poor boy.

Tuffazznailz, Apr 20, Remington R
“[Multiple] complete, traumatic fractures; severe soft-tissue hemorrhage.” Tuffazznailz was three years old. The chart, by the way, merely said, “never got going.”

  1. Why is it not a punishable by law offense to use electrical buzzers to shock racehorses or any other type of horse at any time???
That’s obvious Animal Cruelty to shock a horse with electricity!!! What is wrong with our legislative branch of government that they don’t have laws to punish such a hideous cruelty against horses???
What is wrong with the judicial branch of government that these abusers of horses are allowed to continue with such unacceptable cruelty to horses?

  2. In our 45+ years experience with horses ALL the 1/4 horse trainers we have dealt with were almost all connivers & dishonorable people. Some of whom we still know. Same goes for those whom started out with1/4`s & then changed to either Thoroughbreds or BLM horses. Many of the riders for D.W. Lucas have openly admitted to their use of “Buzzers” in the am when riding the poor abused horses on the track in am.

  3. There is an article about D. Wayne Lukas in the dailygazette.com telling about his training in Oklahoma.
He made a remark referring to the age of the horses he trains. He goes for the yearlings, the two-year-olds and the three-year-olds. He specifically said something to the effect of we don’t have “matured” 4-year-old and 5-year-old handicap horses. Seriously. Who cares that horses are not fully matured until the age of 6 (six) years old…?! Certainly not this “Hall Of Fame” trainer of Thoroughbreds who also has trained American Quarter Horses.
    Remember SECRET OATH…

  4. Of course they would coverup the carnage! This track is the main track where D.W. Lucas operates out of. He along with many $$ grubbing owners / trainers are notoriously cruel in their handling of horses along with Bob Baffert as well with their ” Program” of conditioning. Its all about the $$ We ahve read where Mr. Lucas only relocated to Oklahoma because of the higher costs & more stringent rules in California many years ago. There are a couple of articles telling about his move out of California in the late 1980`s or early 1990`s in Sports Illustrated we think.
