Through a FOIA request to the California Horse Racing Board, I have obtained the following details on some of that state’s kills last year (more can be found here).
Ghostem, Jul 29, Del Mar T
“Complete fractures of the medial and lateral proximal sesamoids of the LF leg. Several ligaments – including the medial and lateral collateral of the metacarpophalangeal joint, the lateral branch of the suspensory, the intersesamoidean, and the straight sesamoidean – had complete ruptures.” Also: “osteochondral disease, cartilage erosion [both front limbs]; several variably-sized chronic gastric ulcers.” Ghostem was four years old.
Noisey Burglar, Sep 14, Los Alamitos S (died Sep 17)
“This horse had a complete fracture of the medial condyle of the left MC3, which was fixed with an orthopedic screw. Was being treated…went rigid…collapsed. Possible cardiac or neural event.” Also: “severe osteochondral disease and moderate-severe cartilage erosion [both front limbs].” Noisey was just four years old. She was yet another victim – extended suffering, death anyway – of Cal’s “surgery program.”
Weeping Willows, Sep 27, Golden Gate T
“Horse collapsed while galloping – dead upon arrival of vets.” Also: “multiple stomach ulcers.” Weeping was but two years old- sudden death.
Navy Queen, Oct 1, Golden Gate T
“Horse was [injured while] working: [multiple] complete, displaced fractures; [multiple] ligament ruptures; [multiple] tendon ruptures; complete rupture of the fetlock joint capsule.” Also: “osteochondral disease [both front limbs].” Navy Queen was six years old.
Cactus Jack, Nov 12, Los Alamitos R (euth Nov 13)
“Raced last night, walked back to barn, unable to stand up this morning: complete, displaced fractures of the 5th and 6th lumbar vertebrae with tearing of the intervertebral disc and subsequent compression of the spinal cord.” Cactus was four years old.

Perfectly Stated..Exactly Right
These horses are abused relentlessly as gambling objects and then used and abused as lab rats until dead.
