3-Year-Old Killed at Monmouth on Haskell Stakes Day

In the 7th at Monmouth Park yesterday – yes, $1M Haskell Stakes Day – Dreaming of Toga was an “injured, pulled up, vanned off.” In fact, I have learned, he is dead – euthanized back in the barn. Dreaming was just three years old, and this was his fifth ever race.

  1. Pat, I wonder if the euthanasia, merciful, of Dreaming of Toga was done back in the barn and not immediately on the track for the sake of image. I hope that horse didn’t have to go through unnecessary extra agony.

    • It looked to me in the replay that the injury happened way in the back behind the trees so it wasn’t in front of the stands or the viewer eyesight.

  2. Just on a personal note..I attended a family party yesterday. My nephew was coming down to Phl metro area from Hoboken, New Jersey. His parents were anxious because it was taking a long time to arrive. When he arrived I asked him about traffic on the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway. He said it was a nightmare. I said there is a big race at Monmouth Park today. That’s probably one of the reasons it’s bad. He said “I didn’t know they still do that . Unfortunately yes.
