2-Year-Old in California Died With Osteochondral Disease in Both Hindlimbs and Gastric Ulceration

Through a FOIA request to the California Horse Racing Board, I have obtained the following details on 2021 kills. (I will be posting in installments.)

Gutz, Jul 4, Santa Anita T
“Catastrophic breakdown: [multiple] open fractures, [multiple] complete ruptures.” Also: “osteochondral disease, [both] front limbs.” Gutz was just three years old.

Arson, Jul 18, Del Mar T
“Open, comminuted tibial fracture; severe hemorrhage and tearing of musculature and skin.” Also: “osteochondral disease in both hindlimbs; [previous] femoral fragments surgically removed; gastric ulceration.” Arson was two years old and being prepped for his first race.

Shesgotattitude, Aug 6, Del Mar R
“Horse flipped en route to Receiving Barn [prior to race] – nystgmus, recumbency, paddling, mucus membranes brick red, blood exuding from mouth and both ears. Basisphenoid and occipital bone fractures – complete, displaced, acute. Severe, diffuse hemorrhage surrounding tissues and compression and laceration of brain stem (from displaced bone fragments).” Shesgotattitude was just two years old.

  1. The people that exploit horses in this way are pro-slaughter for a reason. They don’t have a desire to stop doing what they have always done. They just want to be “what they are” and that includes producing a horse that can be exploited for money. When these horse-abusing psychopaths are done with the individual horse, and if the colts and fillies are still alive but not profitable for exploitation as gambling chips, they can drop them into the slaughter pipeline. Return On Investment is all their ledgers and their brains are capable of seeing…

  2. I totally agree with Wanda Diamond. They are exploiting the horses for the sole purpose of making money. They do not care what happens to these horses. We must end the racing of horses!

  3. THESE PICTURES SHOULD BE PRINTED SOME WHERE TO SHOW WHAT THE BET’ERS ARE DOING TO THESE HORSES!!!!!!

  4. The sheer level of destruction to these horses is horrifying.
    Racing continues to inflicts outrageous pain and suffering without flinching or giving it a second thought because there are no consequences.
