Recent rulings from various state commissions/track stewards.
In Minnesota: “Richard Magee was the driver of Steady Breeze in the 3rd race [at Running Aces] on 7/8/21; welts were discovered by Dr. Taylor when Steady Breeze arrived in the test barn.”
Welts. Magee received a mere 1-day suspension and $1,000 fine.
In Oklahoma: “AFTER FINISHING 1ST IN THE 2ND RACE AT WILL ROGERS DOWNS ON MARCH 22, 2021, THE RACE DAY SERUM SAMPLE FOR THE THOROUGHBRED HORSE ‘STAUNCH ELABORATOR’ TESTED POSITIVE FOR CAFFEINE.”
Caffeine. Owner/trainer Wayne George was fined just $1,500 and has been allowed to continue along merrily, having raced Staunch six times since.
In Wyoming: “The horse Sb Holly Wood finished second in the 4th race at Wyoming Downs on June 13, 2021. Luis Gonzalez was the trainer [and co-owner]. Following standard procedure…the Stewards ordered Sb Holly Wood to be taken to the test barn for collection of blood and hair samples to be tested for prohibited substances. Sildenafil [Viagra] was confirmed in the blood sample.”
Viagra. Gonzalez received a mere 30-day suspension and $1,000 fine.
This is horseracing.
Reblogged this on Armory of the Revolution.
This isn’t right!
But pleassse one of my workers had a cup of instant coffee
Wait a minute, I thought the racing industry insisted that whips don’t hurt? And how could they possibly inflict those type of abusive wounds on animals they love like their children?
Just like those substances – I’m sure there’s a perfectly innocent explanation, like the ones Bob Baffert is always coming up with. Maybe one of the stable hands had Viagra sprinkles on a donut and they fell into Holly Wood’s hay.
And had a cup of coffee to wash it down!
Harness racing knows the whip hurts. He was fined because it’s a violation to strike the horse with the whip.
I bet that will stop him!!! HaHa
Actually they’re pretty good about enforcing that rule. Even if he won that race he only made $125 so the $1000 fine is pretty stiff.
They might enforce it but it’s a pretty limp-wristed fine for that kind of violation. Maybe $1000 a strike would make more of an impact, pardon the pun.
That’s probably a week of income Rebecca. At other tracks he might have been fined $50-100.
Just write a check,right??
Not following your point.
This is…DESPICABLE. They probably all laugh at those ridiculous penalties and go on with their abuse and corruption. All in a day’s work, right, boys????
Jackie, you are Absolutely right! Nothing will change with these Disgusting people.
I wish I could live to see the end of this sick ‘ sport’…
Its like Patrick said; many times societies look back at what was once done …. And have regret,etc.. HOW can we do THESE things to these beautiful, Innocent animals!??
At the very least, there was a fine and a suspension which is not as bad as no fine and no suspension at all. The stewards could have looked the other way entirely. Obviously, this is abuse of the horses so HORSE RACING ITSELF still needs to be banned, fine or no fine, suspension or no suspension. Horse Racing ITSELF is CRUEL & INHUMANE treatment of horses for purse money & gambling bets. The sadistic nature of the people who engage in this business ought to be enough to make it obvious that horses are not safe in their “care” therefore arrest these sadists for Animal Cruelty!!!!
