Three More Kills at Golden Gate, With Details

Through a FOIA request to the California Horse Racing Board, I have confirmed the following deaths at Golden Gate Fields. (Please note: The Board redacted the names of the dead horses; any identifications below came via other channels.)

Driveroff Thedeck, Jan 5, Golden Gate R
Catastrophic breakdown of right front fetlock. Fracture of the proximal sesamoid bones. Full thickness, transverse rupture of the palmar annular ligament. Full thickness, transverse and longitudinal rupture of the intersesamoidean ligament. Complete, short, transverse rupture of the deep digital flexor tendon. Complete, short, transverse rupture of the superficial digital flexor tendon. Severe fraying of fibers, short, incomplete rupture and extensive, complete splits of the lateral branch of the suspensory ligament. Complete, transverse rupture of the medial branch of the suspensory ligament. Severe, focal, full thickness cartilage loss of the medial condyle of MCIII. Mild transverse ridge arthrosis accompanied by fibrillation and cartilage pitting.” (speaks to chronic grinding of this 3-year-old’s body)

unidentified, Jan 6, Golden Gate T
Catastrophic breakdown of left front fetlock. Fracture of the proximal sesamoid bones. Full thickness, transverse rupture of the palmar annular ligament. Full thickness, transverse and longitudinal rupture of the intersesamoidean ligament. Severe fraying of fibers and complete transverse rupture of the medial short and cruciate ligaments. Severe fraying of fibers and complete longitudinal rupture of the collateral ligaments of the proximal sesamoid bones. Severe, complete, transverse rupture of medial extensor branch of the suspensory ligament. Severe, multifocal, full thickness cartilage loss of the distal articular surface of MCIII. Both front limbs were affected by moderate to severe osteoarthritic changes within the fetlock joint, including severely advanced, bilateral palmar osteochondrosis of cannon bones. Furthermore, the medial branch of the suspensory ligament of the right front limb was approximately 3 times enlarged in comparison to unaffected lateral branch, probably as a consequence of the excessive stress affecting the suspensory apparatus.” (speaks to chronic grinding of this 6-year-old’s body)

unidentified, Jan 16, Golden Gate
“This horse had cardiac arrest following recovery from anesthesia…right dorsal caudal thoracic wall, acute brusing and hemorrhage.” (she was three years old)

  1. Really breaks my heart to know the pain these babies go through. Such sacrifice for just race, money doesn’t care about life, just the big bucks

  2. Anybody who reads these facts, who sees these pics and continues to defend this vile public butcher show needs a brain and a heart because you can’t possibly have one.
This is heartbreaking and their voiceless victims are living in a hell hole just waiting to be maimed or die.
The broken bones, torn ligaments/muscles, intense confinement, subjugation, doping, shock wave therapy, investigations that lead to nowhere, pro-horse racing people on the racing commissions protecting the billions in profits over the welfare of racehorses, secrecy (CHRB still NOT releasing the names of the dead racehorses resulting in protecting the racehorse killers), lack of transparency, suspicious deaths that seem to indicate a pattern of killing for equine insurance purposes, attorneys (Clark Brewster & Alan Pincus) owning hundreds of racehorses now and/or over the years sent to multiple doping violators who have been or are engaged in human rights and/or labor violations, the diversion of billions in casino profits to support this unnecessary gambling venue over the education of our children.
All of this being conducted within a criminal enterprise – numerous articles with evidence just Google it.
Why, why why is this permitted to continue??
Our politicians need to stop financially supporting this because the moral issue of killing racehorses seems to escape many of them possibly due to pay back schemes.
Horse racing is a dirty, rotten business full of dirty rotten apples – it’s vile and it needs to end now.

  3. From our friends at Tuesday’s Horse:

Now, if these human life sucking parasites are doing this under severe scrutiny one can only imagine what the hell they do to these racehorses when nobody is looking?
They have their voiceless victims confined in the corner cobwebs of their stalls and away they go, doing whatever, to squeeze the last dime and their life out of them.

This is insanity and it should not be going on in the 21st century.
We need to shut this horror show down and our politicians needs to immediately stop funding these hell holes.

  4. I still cannot understand how people can see a horse’s leg SNAP OFF THEIR BODY and still fight to save this industry. I know that the bottom line with owners and trainers is the filthy almighty dollar, but honestly, you would expect the average person attending races and seeing this would be shocked enough to want to see an end to the obvious suffering and misery on display right in front of them.
