Three horses were carted off the Tampa Bay track Saturday afternoon. Although I have nothing definitive, it’s worth noting that “vanned-off” translates to a better-than-even chance of dead:
Robert Werneth-trained Out the Door in the 2nd (“bled”)
Michael Wright-trained Conquest Outlaw in the 4th (but he held for “place”)
Baltazar Galvan-trained Run Robby Run in the 10th
Also, in the 5th at Louisiana, 3-year-old Macho Mia was reported to have “broke down past the wire.” As “broke down” is racing-speak for dead, we can safely presume that that was it for this filly. On a brighter note, she won the race, earning over $2500 for “connections” Carlos Saldivar and Rogelio Cruz. This is horseracing.
