I am able to confirm two fatalities from this weekend: 4-year-old Generator in Friday’s 8th race at Evangeline and 5-year-old Piskacha in yesterday’s 4th race at Belterra. Prior to his fatal fall, Generator was raced eight times, earning $40,000 for trainer Alvin Sider and owners (and breeders) Glenn Jones and Missy Rutherford. Piskacha, meanwhile, had garnered almost $107,000 (in 31 finishes) for trainer Marco Castaneda and owner Israel Acevedo. Although these wells have now run dry, the connections do stand to profit one last time – with write-offs on next year’s tax returns. This is horseracing.
