Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of this list. That said, my information is only as good as the information I receive. If it can be proved that a horse appears in error, I will dutifully remove.

  1. Hi there. I’m entering a pumpkin carving contest and I want to raise awareness to the hideous number of horses that are dying each year due to the racing business. I was looking at your information, specifically with respect to Los Alamitos vs Santa Anita. Santa Anita seems to be getting all of the press over the number of horses and the rate that horses are dying. How come we aren’t hearing about Los Alamitos race track if 39 horses have died just in 2020? Just curious. This is just awful. I had a horse when I was a kid… They are so special. Thanks for keeping track of this information.

    • The killing at Los Alamitos has garnered media attention, Tricia, albeit not at a Santa Anita level. This can be wholly explained by the fact that SA is one of the top two or three tracks in the entire country; Los Al isn’t.

      • Thank you for your response. I learned a lot from your site and will continue to check back. I’ll post a picture of my carved pumpkin on your facebook link once I get back onto FB (after election). It will be called: “the Angry Ghost of Strictly Biz”, the last horse that died racing at Santa Anita.

  2. Scrolling through this long list of carnage is troubling, to say the least.
Several of the deaths are very disturbing – found dead in stall – collapsed and died – ruptured gut…
I looked at several of the racing histories of these horses which raised even more questions for me.
This industry is a hotbed of nefarious activity. It is a national disgrace.

  3. Does anyone know how you can check on a horse to be sure he’s ok? I saw a race on tv 2 weeks ago and have been trying to see if the horse is ok 🙏🏻 I know he was vanned off
