May 11:
“Callin My Name was scratched when he unseated his rider behind the starting gate and attempted to jump the railing, ultimately running through it. Placed on See Vet List.”

May 13:
“Bosque Redondo finished 10th and required horse ambulance. It was later reported that the horse was humanely euthanized due to his injuries and poor prognosis for recovery.”

“The claim [sale] of Crump was voided when horse was placed on Vet’s List.”

May 14:
“Rio Moon was pulled up abruptly just past the finish and required horse ambulance. It was determined that he had suffered a catastrophic injury to his left foreleg and he was humanely euthanized.”

“Zaphod was injured in the starting gate and scratched.”

May 18:
“The claim of Run for Reagan was voided when horse was placed on Vet’s List.”

May 20:
“The claim of Bajan Rum was voided when horse was placed on Vet’s List.”

“Swanson Lake finished 4th and was pulled up abruptly while galloping out [and] required the horse ambulance. It was determined that the horse had suffered a catastrophic injury to her left hindleg and she was humanely euthanized.”

“Street Swagg was injured in the starting gate and scratched.”

May 21:
“The claims of both Ignitis and Insolito were voided when horses were placed on Vet’s List.”

“The claims of both Infiltrator and Town Branch were voided when horses were placed on Vet’s List.”

May 25:
“The claim of Doubly Blessed was voided when horse was placed on Vet’s List.”

May 26:
“Tollgate Canyon suffered postrace heat distress.”

“Lost in Limbo fell and required the horse ambulance. It was determined that the horse had suffered a catastrophic injury to his left foreleg and he was humanely euthanized. A claim that had been submitted for the horse was voided.” Yes, because he was dead.

“The claim of Fitzpatrick was voided when horse was placed on Vet’s List.”

May 27:
“Kimberley Dream was pulled up abruptly near the 3/16 pole and required the horse ambulance. It was determined that the mare had suffered a catastrophic injury to her left foreleg and she was humanely euthanized.”

“Tapage became ill and was scratched.”

  1. In line with “the pretending” (which is nothing new to horse racing and which Ken Rudulph mentioned and subsequently not invited back), Churchill Downs Inc. doesn’t “see a pattern” with the publicized injuries and fatalities of horses at their famous racetrack.

  2. Ordinary fans or racing need to understand that many times being placed on the vet’s list means that a trainer is trying to run an unsound horse. And they love their horses. Yeah right.

    • It’s more like the trainers love to send their lame horses out to die on the racetrack.
