Arkansas Racing, Oaklawn Park that is, is loath (and loathes) to give up its dead; it took me several years to get FOIA information from them, and it hasn’t been easy since. Because they’re tight-lipped on the charts, too, when they do report a “vanned off” it almost always means dead. Yesterday in the 9th, the 4-year-old Brice was one of those – and, I have confirmed, he is indeed dead. It was his 22nd time under the whip.

Wonder how much the comically-named HISA will affect Oaklawn’s spotty death reporting?
Just kidding; I’m pretty sure the high-integrity team of Dead-Horse Hiders in Arkansas will still find lots of clever ways to conceal their kills when the (hilariously-titled) Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act takes effect in a few months.
BRICE, a Kentucky-bred Thoroughbred Gelding was born on April 27, 2017 and killed by horseracing on April 16, 2022 in Race 9 at Oaklawn Park.
Owner: Hollendorfer LLC, Tri-Star Racing LLC, and George Todaro;
Trainer: Jerry Hollendorfer
