Filly Felled by “Catastrophic Injury” at Tampa Bay

The 7th at Tampa Bay yesterday for 4-year-old Sweet Baby Raelynn: “suffered an apparent catastrophic injury leaving the 5/16 marker.” She is, in fact, dead, as confirmed by the track on Twitter: “Sweet Baby Raelynn was humanely euthanized due to the severity of her injury.” ‘Twas her 13th time under the whip.

  2. Today is the Florida AND Arkansas Derby. Plus all the undercards. Will everyone make it from start to finish on all fours??

  3. I wonder if the jockey heard anything snap? I don’t really know exactly what her injury was, but I’m assuming it was something broken.
    Horseracing is definitely Animal Cruelty!
It is sickening that people still do this crap to horses!

    • Wanda, the jockey was an apprentice She walked back to the jockeys room on her own accord.

    • I could see in the video that the jockey went flying off into the dirt when the horse “lost her footing” somewhat but the horse stayed on her feet for maybe a couple strides or something like that until the video cuts off. It doesn’t show the horse actually falling all the way to the ground, no nose dive into the dirt as some horses have done. Maybe she did so after the video was cut off.
SWEET BABY RAELYNN, a Kentucky-bred chestnut Thoroughbred filly born on March 20, 2018 was first raced on January 1, 2021. She was raced 11 times in the calendar year of 2021. They ran her to her fatal INJURY/INJURIES on April 1, 2022 in Florida. How demented is that!!!!!!!
      Connections as of last start:
      Jockey: Madeline Rowland,
      Trainer: Kathleen A. Guciardo,
      Owner: Heehaw Racing,
      Breeder: Dede McGehee, and
this filly was also exploited by Keeneland.
(Keeneland Association September Yearling Sale, sold for $15,000 to Jonathan Navas. He put her through the sale ring at Ocala Breeders’ Sale in April 2020 for a price of $27,000. Reserve Not Attained.)
These sale/auction house people take their toll on these doomed Yearlings & Two-Year-Olds in Training as well, which is part of this evil game.

  4. The jockey must have felt that horse start to falter and kept pushing her on. No peace for these babies. He rode that game little filly right into the ground. What a shame the horses have to be used this way. You can see her trying but then she dropped. For bets. For human greed. Heartless bastards.

  5. This needs to stop, they are just babies. Some horses aren’t even 2 yet. Do away with that Jan.1st crap where they are consider 2 to race even though they aren’t. Some of this images I have seen on this page are burned in my mind. Everybody should see them.

    • They start training for racing at about eighteen months of age which is of itself INHUMANE. Teaching colts and fillies some basic lessons especially from the ground at eighteen months of age is okay as long as they are turned out to pasture and allowed to continue to grow and live normal lives. Racing is deliberate abuse and not normal.

  6. The cruel horror continues — over and over again — you call this “SPORT?” — this is depraved cruelty — and we, as a Society, are allowing it — SHUT DOWN evil HORSERACING — FOREVER

  7. Horseracing must end as soon as possible! I agree that it must be shut down forever!
