Carnage in Tucson: Rillito Park, 7 Kills in 8 Days

Through a FOIA request to the Arizona Dept. of Gaming, I have confirmed the following kills at Rillito Park over the past two weekends: 5-year-old Shez Ifs in the 3rd Mar 13 (“injured at wire”); 3-year-old The Last Charlie in the 3rd Mar 19 (“injured after wire”); 3-year-old Bali Brava in the 7th Mar 19 (“injured at 3/8”). This makes (at least) 7 kills at the Tucson track in just 8 days of racing. Wondering how well GM Mike Weiss is doing “getting past” so many of these pesky, “unfortunate incidents.”

  1. Heartbreaking. We can’t let up. What will it take to end this nightmare for these poor innocent horses?

  2. Mike Weiss and Tim Kelly both will be like “you don’t know anything about horses or horseracing” as far as their attitude goes. Tim Kelly thinks it’s someone else’s responsibility to take care of the horses that they can’t use as gambling chips. He is a low-life scumbag. He reminds me of a spoiled child that is treated like he can’t do anything wrong while he is demanding, destructive, selfish and sadistic.

  3. My favorite quote from Mike Weiss about personal reaction to racing kills is still, “It’s sadness you don’t get over…”
Well, yeah. When the same “sadness” keeps happening to you every freaking day for months on end — and YOU’RE THE CAUSE of all this “sadness” — you’re not gonna get over it, Mikey.
(Obviously, it doesn’t make you sad enough to stop.)

    • Right, Kelly. Doing the same thing over and over is going to get the same results. Does Mike Weiss expect different results from doing the same things that are definitely abuse to horses over and over???
