According to the chart for the 5th at Turfway last night, Peacebethejourney “fell late [in] stretch in distress.” In fact, I can confirm, she is dead. Peace was three and under the whip for the ninth time. (The breakdown in the replay, of course, has been whitewashed, but I can report that the “Winner’s Circle” celebration pressed on.)
This is horseracing.
Hey racing apologists – Turfway is supposed to be that so much safer synthetic surface. Sure seems like they can hardly go a day without a van off or a break down there.
Not so safe, is it?
You’re right Marie, the surface is essentially, irrelevant.
Aren’t the names of most racehorses so ironic?
PEACEBETHEJOURNEY – her journey was anything but peaceful and her death was horrific.
Horse racing is delusional on so many fronts.
They try to convince the public that racehorses live a life of opulence and that horse racing actually enriches their lives because they ” love to run.”
In fact, they love to run so much that they have to subjugate, confine, beat and whip them to comply.
Then they give them these names that create an illusion of utopia.
Funny how those names, for the sole purpose of gambling, are quickly replaced with numbers on the hip at the kill auctions where many end up.
I especially hate it when they act like they did the horse a favor by forcing him/her to run on a race track.
