Square Dreamer was killed training at Golden Gate Saturday. She was four years old.
Last month, after reporting dead horse #14 at Golden Gate, I admonished that track’s owner, Belinda Stronach, to heed the writing on the wall – to sell her racing interests while her reputation was still somewhat intact. Well, Belinda, with each new kill at your two California properties (Santa Anita is at 14 dead on the year), that reputation gets sullied (and bloodied) just a little bit more.
I’m sick of the killing and abuse.
My personal opinion is I don’t think she’s listening. I don’t think she really cares. Belinda Stronach is the “proud” owner of Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields. Of course, we have other names that are more descriptive of what goes on at these two racetracks: SANTA ANITA DEATH TRACK & GOLDEN GATE KILLING FIELDS.

And she undoubtedly LOVES that blood money that comes with the game.
Yes, undoubtedly, Nancy. It’s the almighty dollar that is the deciding factor. She has a “great” reputation in that dark world of using beautiful horses for GAMBLING CHIPS.
Why don’t they close these racetracks down
Or turn them to over auto racing, Monster Truck rallyes and other professional motor sports. Raise the light tree. Lower the checkered flags.

Why aren’t these senseless killings at the top of the news like it was two years ago? We need to get this out into the media again so we can stop this cruelty. It makes me sick that these beautiful majestic animals are dying just for human entertainment!!!
Belinda and her father Frank were very active in Ontario (Woodbine) for a time. Frank has a reputation as a hard ass, and Belinda was best known for being engaged to a politician who seriously considered a run for Canadian Prime Minister; he was crushed when Belinda was found to be double timing him with a Maple Leaf hockey star, ouch. The Stronachs are better at power struggles and making money off the legs of horses, and apparently could care less about anything else, least of all horses who die on their tracks.

Patrick, I think trying to deal with Belinda Stronach from the starting point of her having a moral compass to begin with just won’t work. None of these people in horse racing have anything remotely resembling a conscience, or empathy, or basic compassion. She has one goal, and that is to make money – something as insignificant as her reputation certainly won’t change her focus. As far as she is concerned, she is above any type of repercussions for her lifestyle built solely on the misery, abuse, and slaughter of thousands of innocent horses. She has never been held responsible and in her mind, she never will.
I agree with you completely, Rebecca. I’m thinking that was a nice gesture for Patrick to make any kind of assumption that she (Belinda Stronach) has even remotely any sort of moral compass at all, just out of common courtesy. But we’re not dealing with people who are capable of being normal or having a normal sense of “right and wrong” so dealing with these people is like dealing with devils. The devil, or any kind of devil, has no common courtesy or decency to do the right thing. The only exception would be a false one, to be two-faced to get what they want, an ulterior motive. That, of course, would not be a genuine love for the Creator or the created. Horses have been used as TOOLS in one way or another since, based on common logic, the beginning of the existence of human beings and animals. God gave the human species the right and responsibllty to have dominion over the animals but that doesn’t (does not) include the moral depravity of abusing and causing lameness, catastrophic life-ending breakdowns, injuries and torturous cruelty to horses or any other kind of animal species for gaming/gambling/WAGERING.
HORSERACING should be just as ILLEGAL as throwing kittens in a cage with fighting dogs and making bets on which kitten will die first or which kitten will live longer after being savagely attacked by the fighting dog/s.

Sorry, Rebecca. I just read about a kitten that was rescued with hair dyed blue and the article went on to discuss the reason why kittens are dyed different colors. Yes, barbaric brutality is ugly and traumatic. Sorry.
I didn’t previously know they owned BOTH tracks (Golden Gate and Santa Anita)!
Well Close Santa Anita, sell the property for likely hundreds of millions. The family would still have Golden Gate. Not perfect but one track at a time.
The Stronach Group, formerly Magna “Entertainment,” their horse racing operations under Adena Springs has, for many years killed racehorses and the Kill Lists from Santa Anita, Golden Gate, Gulfstream and Maryland are just a continuation of this abhorrent business inevitability.
Frank Stronach, former patriarch of the entire horse racing operations, bred racehorses to the maximum in Ontario, Kentucky and Florida over the years.
His racing and breeding operations were on a massive scale and so was the dumping into claiming to clear out racehorses who didn’t make the muster according to his standards, selling at sales, dumping broodmares when no longer reproductively viable, maiming and the inevitable – killing and/or dying.
I witnessed it with my own eyes here in Ontario, as well as, corruption at Woodbine just as bad as any American track and all supported by Ontario taxpayers.
Belinda Stronach was well aware of all this before taking over the helm by touting safety reforms and vowed to stop killing racehorses.
Whatever her intentions – it has never worked and will never work.

Horse racing is a killing business run by killers who facilitates the kills and that’s Belinda Stronach in a nutshell.
This is not a sport it is animal abuse!
