Filly Becomes 45th Victim in NY This Year

According to the chartwriter, Greek Sonnet finished the 5th race at Finger Lakes last Wednesday without incident. In fact, the 3-year-old filly suffered a fractured RF and, says the Gaming Commission, was euthanized two days later “due to poor prognosis.” She is the 45th horse killed at NY tracks this year. 1. How can this be classed as sport. Some poor creature thrashed to death for’sport’

  2. The spectators are as much to blame as the person with the whip!

  3. Euthanized two days later, and I have no doubt it was two days of agony standing in her prison until her “loving connections” finally made their “humane” decision because they had no chance of leeching more money out of this poor mare in the breeding shed.

    • Exactly what I was thinking, Rebecca…these bastards just…won’t…stop!!

  4. The ABUSE and NEGLECT of horses EXPLOITED for Pari-Mutuel WAGERING profits is the most egregious Animal Cruelty!!!! New York racing participants including gamblers can be real ashamed of their immorality and corruption!!!!

    • Well put Wanda. I believe education is the key.
First by learning of the true cruelty and heinous behavior of the racing people Would then lead to an END to subsidies. I pray this happens soon.

  5. I believe that the facts surrounding this case of cruelty and resulting death prove that the racing of horses must be ended. Those responsible for their abuse and death should be punished!
