After 83 deaths at its three tracks (Aqueduct, Belmont, Saratoga) last year, the New York Racing Association can now boast 21 in ’21, as two more were killed yesterday at Belmont. First, 5-year-old Haikal broke a leg while training in the morning. Then, 3-year-old Determined Heart was felled while racing in the afternoon.
If over 100 deaths in less than 16 months is what the industry’s “best proven safety practices” gets you, I shudder to think what mediocre-bad would look like.
They can’t even prove their own rhetoric, yet they expect people to believe them about their “best proven safety practices”.
I have been saying this for quite some time now…..NY is even worse than Ca. Ugly man Todd..rolls on.

They’re all narcissistic animal abusers, so what would they know about what is safe or unsafe? They don’t care about the horses or they would not be in this horse-abusing industry.

HAIKAL – royally-bred by industry standards by royalty Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum of Shadwell Farms.
I’ve been to Shadwell Farms many years ago because once a year they would have a quiet auction, only word of mouth to local farms, to sell-off their deformed colts and fillies from their breeding season.
Many of these large super wealthy farms breed about 300 racehorses per year and there are lots of inbreeding going on which can result in million dollar foals worth $1000 – $5000 depending on the deformity.
Anyways, his Royal HIghness Sheikh Maktoum died last year leaving millions in farm property, breeding and racing stock in Kentucky, U.K and Dubai including a state-of-the-art track.
He left behind about 6 sons, most of whom want nothing to do with horse racing, reportedly rumored to want to sell-off their horse racing entities and have been recently criticized by Dubai residents about widespread poverty while he spends upwards of 6 million on 1 racehorse which is, essentially, state money from the oil wells.
At least 1 son supports their horse racing empire so I suppose the family will work it out.
HAIKAL yet another victim of serial theriocide racehorse killer TODD PLETCHER.
This dude, like Baffert, is a multiple drug violating “Trainer” who has killed lots of racehorses.
HAIKAL wasn’t slated for the crystal chandelier stallion barn at Shadwell (their barn is nicer than most people’s homes) so he was gelded which leaves no residual value just a horse to bolster egos because they certainly don’t need the money.
HAIKAL made over $430,000 so Todd’s commission would be just over $40,000 and with probably nobody to answer to why not risk another life knowing that there will be no repercussions and a potential label into the Racing Hall of (SH)ame?
I can only imagine the amount of doping cocktails, nerve numbing drugs, shock wave therapy and whatever else HAIKAL possibly received to keep him flipping a buck for Pletcher and filling the wagering coffers.
Gina, Haikal’s brother Takaful, who was just two yrs. older..is also deceased. Isn’t that interesting! I believe Haikal was still “in tact”, if you catch my drift, at the time of his death.
Bonnie, “intact” means he was not gelded. Equibase has HAIKAL listed as “H” which means horse or intact male horse. If he was a gelding, they would list him as “G” (as you know).
