Last Week’s “Vanned”

Last week…

H. F. Carmel “vanned off” at Mahoning
Luisana Princess “vanned off” at Gulfstream
Cowboy Cool “vanned off” at Turf
Weavemeawinr “fell and was vanned off” at Delta
Cowboy Cactus Jack “in apparent distress, vanned off” at Oaklawn
Rock Ridge “fell, vanned off” at Oaklawn
Boxer Boy “vanned off” at Tampa Bay
Ricky Run “vanned off” at Tampa Bay
Mountain Bear “vanned off” at Turfway
Born Again “vanned off” at Gulfstream
Da Alpha “vanned off” at Tampa Bay

While not all the “vanned” end up dead, most do, as borne out by our year-end FOIA reports. But even if death is not the ultimate result, the above are victims nonetheless, suffering painful injuries – in the case of the bleeders, pulmonary hemorrhage – so that some men may gamble, others chase pots of gold. (For any new confirmed deaths during the week, please see our running annual list.)

  1. All of these racing participants who engage in this brutality against horses should be arrested, charged, prosecuted and locked up in prison cells for their crimes against horses!!!!!! All of the abuses these people committed need to be recognized by law for what they are!!!!!
It isn’t enough to stop the government subsidies to horseracing!!!!! Of course this abuse of horses needs to be scaled down significantly by stopping the funding of it, but it also needs to be recognized by law for what it is. Horseracing is EGREGIOUS ABUSE OF HORSES!!!!!!!!!!

  2. If Born Again made it out of the horse hearse it will be a miracle. The announcer kept saying #6 horse is out of the race.

    • And, Nancy….Mountain Bear,also 2yr. old,like Born Again, also of the Giant’s Causeway Family.

      • Sad sad sad
Hopefully the commonwealth of Pennsylvania will lead the way to a means to the end.

        • I’m proud of PARX today! Canceling their card out of caution and safety. Too bad dumbass NY isn’t being cautious, they are still running today on their AWFUL track!!!! We all know, NY has kinda become the numero uno killer. Shame on NY. I’m just so proud of Governor Wolf, always trying to do the ethical things. That being said..the legislature will not be helpful…AT ALL.

          • Bonnie..given the logical reasoning, we’ll see. Apparently, the schools in Philly need serious repairs and overhaul. Not to mention the infrastructure

          • Bonnie,
Your comment of “the legislature will not be helpful AT ALL” sounds so discouraging!!! I get emails about political stuff, but nothing about Pennsylvania’s problems regarding how they vote on education, horseracing or anything.
Wait a minute, could it be that Parx is under more scrutiny because of the obvious??? Could it be possible that if the Governor of New York was to have the same agenda as the Governor of Pennsylvania that the New York track owners/operators would cancel the race cards during freezing temperatures???

  3. Wanda, I’m not trying to be pessimistic..it’s just their state legislature (PA), is heavily majority Repub. It would have been a done deal,a few years ago,IF , Tom Wolf had a majority of his own party, but he has never had that luxury. His whole Governorship he has had trouble passing what HE wants. Education has always been his number one issue,at least unlike other govs.,he has always kept trying. That is more than I can say for Cuomo and Newsome.

    • Bonnie,
Thank you for clarity. I understand that you were not trying to be pessimistic. I get it about the Republican ideology; that they are for giant multi-BILLION dollar corporations and all that kind of stuff. Horseracing is a global BILLION-DOLLAR industry that takes way more than they give back. The last four years were discouraging, to put it mildly.
