The NYS Gaming Commission has disclosed the death of Daytime Doll training at Belmont Saturday – officially, “horse pulled up after wire…euthanized on track after suffering an injury.” She was two years old and being prepped for her first race. She is the 5th kill at Belmont this year – this, after 53 horses met their ends there last year.

All Mo, Jan 7, training – “open distal radial fracture”
Cerretalto, Jan 29, stall – “colic…euthanized due to poor prognosis”

Daytime Doll, Feb 6, training – “pulled up…euthanized on track”
Thoroughbreds aren’t bred for soundness and racing babies makes no sense whatsoever. A killing combination. Tracks need to be shut down and no more online betting.

You are so correct,also..3 big red flags were there, didn’t sell at bargain basement price, Unbridled Song pedigree,tends to have more than their share of breakdowns (Eight Belles), and many,many others from that line. She was a VERY late foal,born in June for god’s sake. All the signs were there. I cry for that baby girl. This killing MUST stop.

About the online betting, it is ironic to me that the same technology we use to access this blog, comment and so forth, is the way in which the racing industry can continue to collect money from gamblers placing bets on racehorses. Last year, 2020, would have been a whole different story on the wagering handle revenue because of the COVID-19 pandemic had it not been for online wagering.

For all these racehorse owners and trainers care about their horses, why don’t they just have simulated racing? Sounds nutty, I know, but it’s not like the people involved in horse racing or the bettors actually CARE about the horses themselves. And computer animation has come a long way.
Hell, they could even have computer simulated drugs to give their horses, and have randomly selected “injuries” for their horses, too.
Rebecca, I thought about that also, especially after last year’s Kentucky Derby that was computer-generated. They could absolutely have computer generated racing using the technology that already exists; they have Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality and all kinds of interactive games.
Some of the games can be played for free but there are options to buy certain things relative to the game to advance to a higher level. Using live horses could be eliminated. It doesn’t sound nutty at all to me because so much has already been done.
Did you notice that the virtual jockeys were whipping their virtual 2020 Kentucky Derby mounts?
Also, speaking of jobs, creating this new computer-generated way of racing and betting on simulated horses would create jobs for computer programmers, etc.
At least the virtual horses won’t be emotionally and physically scarred by it.
Rebecca, believe it or not, simulated horseracimg does exist. They were advertising this “new, “Fun” game on TV a couple of months back. Mind you, I am in Canada and we all know ads on TV and otherwise are certainly not the same. That being said, it is totallly doable. And you are so right, the disgusting bettors do not care if they bet on a real horse or an animated one as long as they can feed their addictions. Another poor baby dead…these excrements just…will…not…stop. Sick!!!

I would too, please! Nearly all the California news outlets do a story about each of these deaths-by-racing, and they’re viewed (and read) voraciously by the animal-loving public. But NYS racehorse killings are all but ignored by their local news media. Makes no sense.

We care but until horses are reclassified from livestock to animal companion or other, the owners and trainers cannot he held responsible for animal cruelty and abuse. All we can do is scream. The answer is lawsuits. I have great faith in the reform action provided by huge settlements for animal cruelty. Otherwise all you can do is keep track of trainers and the horses they have destroyed. I do see the racetracks are paying attention to horse breakdowns. After I sent an email to Gulfstream Park last evening about Saffie Joseph’s 3 y.o. filly Born Again I saw a resonse on Twitter. Saffie Joseph got the message. He reported that his filly is having surgery today. But of course, what will be her new standard of living now?
Shocking she made it to surgery after the race replay I saw.
Your MOST revered horses are the ones who can get a route of ground and win the classics. Then why the hell are they TORTURING infants to run at breakneck times?????? You see my POINT.
