It’s Official: Los Alamitos Strikes Again

Yesterday, I speculated that there was a good chance that Alltime Favorite was euthanized after being “injured, vanned off” at Los Alamitos Saturday. To date, however, no confirmation. Today, though, we know with certainty that that besieged track has struck again. According to the CHRB, Tacy, five, was killed in the 5th yesterday. She is, officially, the 30th kill there this year, 65th at all California tracks.

  1. Should be enlightening for the public to watch how the CHRB responds to the abject failure of their own, smarmy-as-hell, “horse-killing-probation” decision.
I’m pretty sure they’ll still find a way to weasel out of enforcing their duty to shut down the Los Alamitos Horse-Killing and COVID-Spreading Emporium, though;(

    • I’m betting on them to conveniently use COVID to shut down – they won’t even have to mention all the horses they’ve killed.

A while back when they were whining about not racing due to COVID, a member of the “counter protestors” group claimed that the backside workers – including the jockeys – were “experts” at social distancing and therefore COVID spread would not be an issue. I kid you not.

      • Pretty sure Los Al was never shut down at all, Joy. The Orange County Board of “Health” declined to put restrictions on their operation, so they merrily kept racing, killing, racing, killing, racing, killing, throughout the pandemic. Maybe you’re referring to Santa Anita? Either way, I hope you’re right that they’ll shut themselves down, but I don’t believe for a second that the CHRB will do it, at least not for more than a couple days:(

    • You’re right, Kelly – I didn’t explain myself clearly as I was referring to any of the tracks that might not be racing due to COVID and all of the whining that followed – I’m sure you recall an excuse they used (to be able to train and race) was the horses needed to get out of their stalls! They just figured that out (eye roll)?

      • Understand:) I’m afraid we’ll all be forced to suffer through more of racing management’s non-stop complaining and whining as hundreds of track workers become infected: “But, but, but…We’re doing everything right! You HAVE to let us kill…er, I mean, race these horses!”

  2. Right, Kelly. They have been killing horses for longer than some of us are aware of and they operate with the mentality that they don’t see a problem with horses dropping to the ground with catastrophic injuries making “humane” euthanasia necessary. It is not considered or recognized as a problem out loud in public but you know that the Jockey Club and others in the racing industry/ business will come up with phony statistics and phony “plans” to address the problem of animal advocates screaming bloody murder for killing so many horses on their racetracks in California and every state that has any horses racing on any type of racetrack. Killing horses with catastrophic injuries just goes with the territory and putting up with those pesky people that think causing these catastrophic injuries to horses on purpose and killing horses is wrong…well, that could be something they might just have to take a serious look at to protect their money-grubbing business, not the horses.
If anything is done to seriously slow down the racing and the rate at which horses are killed in the next few weeks or months, it will be as you have pointed out, that people, especially jockeys, are actually getting sick with COVID-19 and the Governor will be responsible to take steps to slow down the spread of the disease to other human beings until there is a vaccine that is proven to be effective.

    • Wanda and Kelly. Another jockey at Los Al tested positive for Covid. Eduardo Fernandez is #5
Gov Newsome shutting down California venues to try to stop this pandemic

      • Thanks, Nancy! The L.A. Times is now reporting that Santa Anita is also having a “surge” of COVID-19 infections. Guess all those safety protocols they promised they were going to implement in order to be allowed to resume racing weren’t so “safe” after all, eh?

  3. This is disgusting and absolutely inhumane! It needs to be stopped! They kill these poor creatures all forg greed. How many horses have to die before they put an end to this??

  4. It is not the track that the horses run on that is what is injuring/ killing the horses. It is the SICK PEOPLE – owners, trainers, vets, shoers, jockeys, etc…. that are all in cahoots they all know these poor animals are injured and they DRUG the animals so they don’t feel anything and run the horses on an injury to their death. Disgusting!!! The public needs to know the truth!!! Even with insured horses the owners do not care because they still make $$$$$$. I have owned horses for 40+ years. My friends and I have never had a horse young or old break legs, etc… from riding/ competing. DRUGS are masking/ numbing the injuries ( the horses are to young in the first place to run like this) and the horses are forced to run on injuries and that is how the horses breakdown and have to be killed!!! #STOPHORSERACING

  5. Nancy and Kelly, thank you for the updated information regarding horse racing and COVID-19 in the State of California. Among the bad news of the catastrophe of the horseracing injuries and killed horses, it takes a global health PANDEMIC in humans to bring a decrease in racing injuries. It is creepy to say it’s good news because people getting sick and some people dying from COVID-19 is not good news. SMH…😞🙏😔

  6. IT SEEMS THAT THIS COUNTRY DOES NOT NEED AN EXCUSE TO KILL ANIMALS…THEY CALL IT ENTERTAINMENT, TESTING POPULATION CONTROL OR WHAT EVER OTHER LAME EXCUSE THEY CAN COME UP WITH. AS LONG AS SOME PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO SAY ” NOT MY PROBLEM OR I DON’T WANT TO GET INVOLVED; IT WILL GO ON. PEOPLE HAVE TO DEMAND CHANGE!!!!!

  7. This subject needs to be addressed in commercials just like the cruelty and abusive for dogs, cats , it is a terrible crime to put down a animal because if a injury it received after bring out thru a cruel training process just to make someone rich, who doesn’t care about the animal itself but only cares about the money it makes for them. It needs to be advertised more, they advertise about everything else, how about advertising about the real cruelty behind horse racing and the devastating fate if they get injured
