2-Year-Old Killed at Santa Anita

Santa Anita recorded its 14th dead horse of the year yesterday when Lightsaber “broke down” in a training session – “unrecoverable injury,” said the track, “humanely euthanized.” Lightsaber was two years old and being prepped for her debut.

Dead “athletes” every day. America, your “Sport of Kings.”

  1. Every. Day. Soreness.
    Every. Day. Doping.
    Every. Day. Injuries.
    Every. Day. Killing.
    Horses. Don’t. Have. A. Chance.

  2. Its the same names all the time. Eric Kruljiac has had others just in the past 2 years. This Jimmy Creed filly was barely 2 years old. She was owned by the murderer, bought at the yearling sale for $45,000. What a shame and a waste. They probably started “training” her as a yearling. Before a workout, these young horses should have an MRI and bone scan. Why doesn’t the racetrack mandate this?

    • It defies common sense to “train” yearlings, 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds and any horse NOT YET MATURED to perform as though they are matured. This is the BASIC FUNDAMENTAL WRONG of the horse-killing blood sport of “wannabe kings” depraved of morality. Of course, as many people already know, there are many, many wrongs of horseracing, the blood sport for people who love hurting and killing horses.

  3. I pray everyday that race tracks will become safer, trainers will respect their horses and make sure no drugs are involved. When I see how many deaths per day at race tracks I realize that none of this is being done and more horses, young or old, are dying everyday. Sport of Kings, no one who abuses a horse is a king, they are animal abusers just for the almighty dollar!

    • Sharon, there is NO WAY this “sport” can be redeemed. The tracks cannot be made safer, the trainers cannot be made to have more respect and it is impossible to keep drugs out. This is not “The Sport of Kings,” it is the “Sport of Thugs” a thoroughly corrupted, vile business of death and injury and people who care not one bit about these beautiful horses because there is no room in their hearts or brains for anything but money, and they don’t care what they do for it.

  4. Start showing some bodies on the evening news , people are at a boiling point ! Use it !!!!! You won’t get another chance !

    • I too think that people should see the end result of this in humane sport. Otherwise it’s just like puppy mills. You don’t see it it don’t affect you. put it in print so people can see what this really is. Dead horses used up for human greed.

  5. Its just astonishing how they continue to run this track… karma one day…

  6. I used to love to watch horse racing. Never gambled on them. Just wanted to cheer them on and see the celebration that went with it. Never had any idea what they were going through. Now I know better and I’m sorry. My heart breaks for these beautiful creatures I love so much. Praying God saves them all and sets them free.

  7. TWO YEARS OLD and being forced to race before her bones are strong enough. She was JUST GROWING. AIS THE RACE HORSE INDUSTRY GOING TO UNDERSTAND THESE BABIES ARE TOO YOUNG TO RACE. THEY KNOW THAT IN EUROPE THEY DON’T RACE TILL THEY’RE FOUR. TWO YEARS OLD TO TRAIN AND RACE IS BARBARIC!

  8. Here’s a weird one for you, Patrick: The L.A. Times reports Lightsaber’s trainer is Eric Kruljac, killer of two horses in just the last five months. The CHRB has the trainer listed as Ian S. Kruljac. Okay, I guess; maybe he needs to lay low and change his name a lot in that sleazy business. But…it appears the fine folks at Los Alamitos just had a(nother) TB fatality on June 2. And THIS poor horse, Grimm Resolve, is listed as trained by a Joseph E. Kruljac. Sooooooo, as if you don’t have enough carnage to sort through, it appears the Kruljac family is comprised of prolific horse killers. Don’t know who’s who in this disgusting debacle, but once again, Los Al proves they will never, ever, ever mention a single word about even one equine victim of their non-stop bloodbath.
And, of course, the CHRB (and the L.A. Times) is just fine with that.

  9. This is gut wrenching. I’m appalled at the wreckless treatment of the horses. These people don’t love horses, and it’s a crying shame how they are killing them.

  10. This industry is a blood sport fueled by gambling addicts and wealthy greedbag creeps.

  11. The deaths of these magnificent animals are not getting the attention it deserves! We’re just waiting for another one to drop. I agree that the deaths be shown in the news.
