Another Kill at Belmont – That’s 19 Thus Far This Year

Earlier this week, I reported on three kills in a single day at Belmont Park. Fortunately, we were able to garner some media coverage, no small feat given the many pressing matters of the day. In the USA Today’s account, I was quoted as saying, “With each new kill, NYRA’s ‘commitment to safety and equine welfare’ is (further) revealed as the sham that it is. Without having run a single race yet in 2020, Belmont Park counts 18 dead racehorses. 18. And for nothing more than $2 bets. The time has come for all Americans of good conscience and compassion to call for an end to this carnage.” Yesterday, that sham was yet further laid bare as the carnage continued.

After a morning training session, says the Gaming Commission, 3-year-old Chouchou de Boo “was transported by ambulance to Ruffian, where after radiographs reveal [sic] several injuries, Dr. Claffey decided to euthanized [sic].” It’s downright criminal, folks.

  1. No doubt Too Fast to Pass would have been on this list, too, following his Opening Day Belmont breakdown. His revolving door of loving connections say they will try to save him — broken leg, and all — and give him a “retirement.”
These were the same creeps willing to dump a pre-injured TEN-year-old into his 91st race, though, so not gonna give them any credit for pretending to do right by poor Too Fast. They were just stuck holding the bag when the inevitable end came, and it was far too public for their comfort..
So, now they’re forced to fake some semblance of concern for his long-term welfare. Nice folks.

    • People without a CONSCIENCE,is a major issue in this country. END abuse of animals.

  2. Hello, there is an emergency at Belmont Park in New York. They are killing racehorses there. Please send help!!!! Please arrest these animal abusers before they kill more horses!!!!

  3. As long as our politicians continue to give billions in casino profits to tracks like Belmont it will be near impossible to shut these hell holes, corruption and death pits down.
As most of you know, I’ve been fighting for years in many different capacities for the betterment of the racehorse.
First, I was a full-fledged supporter, owner/trainer and I tried to change things from within. I failed.
Second, I entered my “reformist” stage where I truly believed that I would be able to make a difference as an Assoicate Steward. My main goal as a CHRB Steward was to try to make a difference. I failed.
Now, as an opponent of horse racing and one who wants this to shut down my journey to this point led me to the conclusion that they don’t want meaningful changes because they require daily, abusive business practices (doping, beating, dumping, running until they kill them) to fill races and their wagering coffers.
They can say that they love them like “family members” all they want, but when it gets right down to it it’s about the money over the welfare of the racehorses.
    That’s why it’s a business.
However, I won’t stand defeated as I will continue to educate, write letters, and be a voice for these poor souls who are nothing more than disposable gambling chips.

    • Thank you, Gina, for caring enough about horses to speak up for the horses against the abusive business of racing and wagering handle, and sharing your experience. God knows the horses cannot stop their abusers from inflicting untold amounts of pain on them!!!!

  4. As you know, not even the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been successful at protecting ALL HORSES EXPLOITED by the creeps involved in horseracing from being heinously abused to death. The FBI deserves credit for investigating serious crimes against racehorses and the indictment of nineteen people, including Jorge Navarro. However, the criminal activities of horseracing are still taking place. The FBI needs to be investigating the “doping programs” of Bob Baffert, Steve Asmussen, and all “trainers” and “veterinarians” employed by the horseracing industry.
