One Horse “Benefits” From Another’s Death

Last night at Mountaineer, Equibase reports, Shared Silence “took a bad step” in the 3rd, fell, and was “vanned off.” In fact, I can confirm, the 5-year-old mare is dead. Of added note, here are the summaries for the first and second finishers:

“PULPIT’S PURRFECT stalked the pace pressing up in bid near the quarter pole, inherited a clear lead when rival fell…. DIVA BANKER tracked evenly then benefited from a spill near the three sixteenths pole chasing the winner down the lane.”

Just when you think their depravity has about bottomed out, a new depth is dug. A “spill”? Worse, “benefited” from said “spill”? A horse, who hasn’t a clue that she’s “competing,” “benefits” from another horse fatally falling. Imagine that. Then there were these (Twitter) reactions from “fans” who had watched it live:

“That was so freaking brutal at mountaineer! Yikes.”

“That was horrific…”

“That was tough to watch.”

“That was awful!”

“Saw the replay, holy shit!”

“Yeah that was ugly.”

“Horrible breakdown.”

“ughhh.”

And yet, they will come back today for more.

But the very worst, most vile came from a piece of excrement named Scott White:

“Too bad he [sic] didn’t take a few other horses out too. Needed the 4.”

America, your “Sport of Kings.”

  1. HORSERACING IS ANIMAL ABUSE.
ANY PERSON WHO PARTICIPATES IN HORSERACING IS AN ANIMAL ABUSER.
GAMBLERS SHOULD CHOOSE ANY GAMBLING THAT DOES NOT INVOLVE ANY ANIMALS.
HORSES ARE BEAUTIFUL CREATURES THAT DESERVE FREEDOM, CARING, LOVE AND ATTENTION.
    PLEASE STOP HORSERACING.
PLEASE SHOW THAT YOU ARE COMPASSIONATE TOWARDS HORSES.
PLEASE BECOME A BETTER HUMAN BEING AND STOP ANY INVOLVEMENT WITH HORSERACING WHICH IS 100 % ANIMAL ABUSE.
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR TAKING YOUR TIME TO REFLECT ON MY REPLY.

  2. This disgusting industry doesn’t “benefit” the horses at all, just the greedy, depraved people involved!

  3. I’m outraged, heartbroken and livid that this vile business is still going on.
What more do we need to know?
Racehorses are dying – that’s all we need to know to shut this public butcher show down.
The comments listed above are clear examples of the vile people who are sadistic enough to not only watch a racehorse die, but to only care about their stupid gambling bets.
Anybody who supports, participates and defends this – SHAME ON YOU.
    These apologists are so repulsive.
They can’t possibly possess feelings while watching the massive pain, suffering and carnage of racehorses.
    It’s just so disturbing.

    • Gina, I think if the legislators and Governors communicated and explained to the citizens of their states…the citizens would understand how money is being stolen from them!!! Education is the KEY.

  4. Clearly these people who write for the racing industry care nothing for the horses health, well-being or safety. It is there in the chart writer’s choice of words that exposes the callousness of the people involved in the horseracing industry.
Clearly these morally depraved people who bet on horses to win, place, or show obviously don’t care what happens to any of the horses. All that matters to these morally depraved people is winning some money. The same holds true for everyone else involved in horseracing and who defend the brutality of racing horses whether the horses are killed on the racetracks, the training tracks, the stable area, the breeding farms, in transit, at a feedlot or at the slaughterhouses. Thoroughbreds (as well as all racing breeds) need protection from this callous abuse known as horseracing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Thank you for the not-surprising-at-all update, Patrick and Company. I just wanted to add a couple of observations, if I might:
1.This little dirtbag track called Mountaineer is best remembered for its Bridget Maloney fame. (Remember her? Of course you do; we all do.)
    2. Turns out, Shared Silence’s most recent race (prior to yesterday’s catastrophe), was on May 4…of 2019(!). That’s right; nearly 13 months she’d been on a racing break. But her loving connections decided they needed to squeeze just this ONE MORE RACE out of her before they dumped her wrecked, lifeless body in the local landfill.
    3. Devilish Magic, the horse who “hit (the) spill” and lost her jockey ALSO was a Did Not Finish in this five-horse-race. Thus, only three horses actually completed the Deliverance Derby.
    4. Diva Banker, the horse who reaped all those extraordinary benefits from Shared Silence’s death, was competing at the posh, resort atmosphere of West Virginia’s premiere track for the very first time. She’d been raced just about everywhere else before this serendipitous disaster that brought her so much success.
    5. Racing Twitter will never be able to block out and hide the scum who celebrate breakdowns. There’s just too many of them reveling in their GOOD FORTUNE when a horse goes down. For every Scott White, there’s a thousand other grizzled, old die-hards who felt that same, celebratory thrill, but weren’t stupid enough to shout it out to the world.

    • I have lost my faith in the humans, who are the corny ass racing “community”,your EVIL,EVIL vile humans. You (racing supporters) will be judged someday by the lord…and it won’t be pretty. #judgementisabitch

    • Thank you Kelly.
Also, after Shared Silence came back from her 13 month “rest” she was entered for the lowest claim of her “career”. Her last race, before her hiatus, on 4/17/2019 was an Allowance in which she placed 2nd. After that (and maybe before) the mare must have had an issue that warranted her retirement, but instead, her connections brought her back and sent her to her death.
Nice going, connections, track “officials” track vets. and all involved in this outrage.

      • Yes, the track officials and the veterinarians that allow this egregious abuse of horses are guilty!!!! They really need to be held accountable as well as the owners and trainers and the jockeys. The stewards are there to do what? Watch horses die????

  6. Patrick. It was a horrible “spill” at Mountaineer but this place is famous for running down and out horses. Ones that should not even be racing. And the “men” and women that force these horses to run are the lowest of the low. Southern Appalachia men..remember the movie Deliverance? Thats the way I see these people. Still, I did laugh when I read your synopsis. Haven”t you ever been around poor white trash? Read the book Tobacco Road.

    • Mary, what happened to that dear sweet baby girl should NEVER happen to a horse!!!!!!!! RIP baby girl. No one will ever hurt you again. 😭😭😭

      • Thank you for your dedication, Bonnie. There needs to be a true authority that steps in and puts a stop to this madness of running horses to their deaths; a real stop! This deliberate killing of horses by racing is objectionable to people who have a heart. The degenerate people that treat horses like this must be stopped!!!!! The Federal Bureau of Investigation should be stopping the racing of horses to their deaths!!!!!!

  7. There are only 3 categories of racehorse apologists. 1. Abusers 2. Enablers of the abuse 3. Both.
    Vile.

  8. I’m a Warrior, have been my whole life. I will NEVER give up on something I love … bring it on. You won’t outlast me. Watch the Mel Gibson movie Apocalypto … that is me to a T. I’m always for the underdog…the high ground. #horsesareworthit Don’t give up. Keep on keepin on!!!!!!!!!
