Another Kill at Rillito

In the 5th at Rillito February 15, Randy’s Boy was a “DNF, vanned off.” Today I can confirm that he is dead – euthanized, says the Department of Gaming, for his injuries. Randy’s Boy was four years old and under the whip for the 31st time.

  1. Thirty-one times forced to race, whipped, treatment that makes no life worth living. Dead at four, only a “child”, still.
Thank you for seeking this information, Patrick. Not “totally ” forgotten, Randy’s Boy!
RIP, so sorry for what was done to you and denied to you. Your life was ruined and then stolen away.

  2. Feb. 15th, huh? Arizona tracks had only just BEGUN their daily killing spree for this season when they offed Randy’s Boy. Since their Department of Gaming makes it a habit of waiting at least three weeks to release horse death info, it’s safe to say that there’ll be a hell of a lot more dead horse reports coming your way, Patrick.
Between Turf Pairo’deaths and this Rillito dump, they’ve acquired a near-daily breakdown record over the course of this last month.
And, to prove that horses aren’t the only victims of their Desert Death Machine, Rillito also hosted the killing of an old jockey.
Way to embrace that “safety,” AZ racing folks.

    • No pity for the jockey from me – besides he died doing what he loved, right? This guy made a career out of whipping and shocking babies, so as far as I’m concerned, this was a case of too little, too late.

      • My larger concern is for all the AZ horses who now have only a few more hours til they have to be hauled out of there. Think most of them are getting taken to a nice stable where they can be fed and cared for by professionals? Neither do I.
The AZ “kings” who “love” them are right now arranging for their one-way trips to Mexico. I think most of them will never be heard from again. Yet racing folks will only blame track management, or Patrick Battuello, or the “liberal” media, or sunspots, or whatever they can use to justify their own callous greed.
As for Richard Gamez, he was certainly not the first rider to be killed on the track. But I believe he’ll be (one of) the last.

  3. 4 years old…31 times under the whip in servitude to his criminal owners to entertain a bunch of assholes who have nothing better to do with their sorry money. How obscene and disgusting!
RIP in pony heaven Randy’s Boy…heartbreaking that the only way to escape your abusers was death.
