Last Week’s “Vanned Off” and “Bled”

Horses “vanned off” after U.S. Thoroughbred/QuarterHorse races last week. While not all horses “vanned off” end up dead, most do, as borne out by my year-end FOIA reports. In other words, the majority of these names will resurface on my killed lists.

Accabonac Harbor at Aqueduct
Graveyard Shift at Parx (after being “ridden back to the paddock lame”)
Veil’s Vengeance at Sunland
Harlan Selection at Sam Houston (“fell after wire in distress”)
Senor Grits at Turf
Somethingtotellyou at Aqueduct
Containment at Fair Grounds
Mac McLovin at Fonner
Terrible Tara not vanned but “slammed into the rail, DNF” at Gulfstream
Rally Cap not vanned but “reported to have bled” at Aqueduct
Takeoff at Aqueduct
Dyna’s Knight at Laurel (“after being pulled up lame”)
Winslow Honey at Parx
Warrens Lil Margie not vanned but “bled” at Golden Gate
Singaprayer at Rillito

  1. As I looked at that picture the first thing that came to mind, really, was “KNOCK THAT SHIT OFF” and then it devolved into words like morons with appropriate verbs. It’s just unbelievable.

  2. I don’t think the state of Arizona can get through a single day of racing at any of its three dumpy desert killing fields they call tracks without at least one death. Another poor soul named Sheriffsheriff was vanned off at Turf Pairo’deaths today. Couldn’t even get to the halfway point before he was pulled up and hauled off. Of course, his owners are probably devastated that, as a DNF, their beloved family member didn’t even earn them that sweet, sweet $66.00 prize they could have pocketed had he only been whipped to the finish line.

  3. Abhorrent, disgusting, cruel, abominable, repulsive, heinous and a million other adjectives could not describe this odious industry. “Slammed into the rail”…how, just HOW does something like this happen yet it is allowed it to continue? Day in and day out horses are maimed, abused, killed and some call themselves HUMAN?? No, people, you are all worthless parasites.

  4. All of the horses used in horseracing have to suffer sadistic abuse even when we don’t read their names on a list of injured, killed, euthanized, vanned off, bled or any other words used to describe their suffering and fate. No matter how disturbing this all is, it must be reported and information shared to educate the uninformed so that the general public can know what is going on in the world of horseracing. More people knowing about these unacceptable cruelties to horses will make it more difficult for the morally depraved people actively involved in horseracing to deny and deflect and get away with this cruelty to horses. Stop torturing horses! Ban horseracing! Horseracing is torturing horses. It’s UNETHICAL and UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
