2-Year-Old “Passes” After Training Injury at Belmont

According to the NYS Gaming Commission, A Freud of Mama “passed” Saturday “after post-op complications from [a] fracture sustained on Belmont training track January 24.” So now these horses are “passing” as opposed to simply dying. Wow. The Commission, of course, filed this under “other” even as it reports the fatal injury occurred on-track. And this, folks, is just one of the ways Racing massages its kill numbers. A Freud of Mama was but two and had been put to the whip six times.

This is horseracing.

  1. Had to be a 3 year old if the injury was sustained in January.

      • In my opinion, the name and date of birth of every horse is significant. Granted dead is dead regardless of age. The fact that degenerate people are allowed to abuse and torture horses to death needs to be against the law. No one should be above the law. No one should receive government subsidies to continue the sadistically abusive cruelty and inhumane treatment committed on horses. Stop torturing horses at all ages. [Baby Race: a race for 2-year-olds]. Baby Races should not even exist ever!

  2. I see a difference in years of suffering. The 10 yr. old “warrior” is abused for approximately 8 years while those that succumb early are spared years of inevitable abuse. The tough hang in, but eventually they face death at the track or in the slaughterhouse. Either way, it does not matter to racing the only exception being if the victim had the potential to be a money- maker.
However, as you said, Nancy, it is the same “horrible outcome”

  3. They think it makes it sounds so peaceful, that people will believe that this horse just slipped away surrounded by those who loved him. Not the disgusting truth that his catastrophic injuries were totally man made and that he suffered needless fear and pain. Disgusting.
