Through a FOIA request to the Minnesota Racing Commission, I have confirmed the following deaths at Canterbury Park in 2019. As always, the response came with this: “Minnesota Veterinary Medicine Laws prevent us from disseminating any other identifying information.” Minnesota and Indiana remain the only states that bury – figuratively, of course – their dead.

This is so sad. I wonder what they mean by “other” and if freezing to death is ever a cause of death in Minnesota.
No, their racing meets are from early May thru mid-September. No racing over the winter months.
If a racehorse did die of hypothermia during the winter months when it can get double-digits below zero, it would not be considered a “racing” death. So, it could possibly be considered a death by “other” causes, couldn’t it?
Please begin pursuing Oaklawn Park as racing starts there soon. This is another place in the image of Churchill Downs and The Fairgrounds. Many cheap and ignorant people pretending to be horse trainers and the track has no oversight for horse protection. And they do not report horse injuries and deaths to the Jockey Club. Another hokey place with the good ole’ boys.
Kind of a fitting name for a horse track, isn’t it? Canterbury? As in, step one: canter your horse. Step two: now bury your horse.
