Poor well bred filly died today in the 6th race at Keeneland. Matt Hegarty had the decency to report it. Call to Victory will not ever start another race. 3 year old filly by Jimmy Creed out of a Medaglia D’Oro mare had her life in front of her until Brendan Walsh decided to take that chance. These people should not have the right to turn other peoples horses into trash. They have to pay for this with jail time and the cost of the horse. Minimum
I am amazed daily at the postings over the kills at these different race tracks. The lack of respect for these horses is more than I can even start to understand. If any trainer or rider ever referred to one of my horses by the names listed above on this write up on the racing in Australia I would have literally grabbed them the hell off the horse and throat punched them right on the spot. These are ignorant f*ckers and no horse ever needs to be treated with no respect. We need to ban together to stop this racing completely. I am having huge issues as well as many of you with regards to the lack of involvement with Peta or certainly to the point that it matters. We are losing horses daily and they are suffering tremendously for nothing more than some ignorant bastard hoping to have a f*cking “win” ticket – Jesus H Christ people we have to get rid of these horrible abusers and killers because that is all that any of them are. Absolute respect and gratitude to all organisations working tirelessly to explodes the myths and shine the light of exposure into the worldwide heinously inhumane practices within this monumental industry, that functions precariously on a facade of pristine appearance, pretentious glamour and greed. I hope this report helps to rip the roots of tradition further out of the ground in our advance forward to the right side of history and the due diligent respect that horses more than any other species are owed, for their unassailable sacrilege to us throughout history. It is an abomination and a shameful indictment of humankind that we are still prepared in the 21st century to harness such deceit and corruption against animals of such innate servility in the interest of their exploitation for the procurement of our own selfishness.

I think what is being missed is the number of psychopaths working here. They should be sent to be tested for mental psychosis and mental stability, and what they do in their off time should be explored.

I completely agree that anyone who enjoys butchering animals has a serious mental issue. I’m not against using animals for food (even animals kill and eat animals) but there should be a standard of humane treatment beforehand and there is none. Without going into all the other venues, the slaughter of horses is particularly disgusting. The men who work at these slaughterhouses display a level of cruelty that is truly terrifying and I have a hard time believing their affinity for torture is relegated to the workplace only.

I know you meant “sacrifice” and I wish we had editing capability here. I was riding through Death Valley when it became abundantly clear that we owe horses a ton. We used them as a tool to develop the West and a good tool they were. As with the domestication of dogs, we have a sizable debt. I find it interesting that, instead of repayment, we continue to amass the debt. And this has become algebraic in it’s increase because, as one example, we use them for fatal entertainment.

Horse slaughter is beyond anything you can possibly imagine. It causes terror, pain, and great suffering. Watching these slaughter videos can literally make you sick. I just want everyone to know why we MUST shut down horseracing NOW. They can’t be allowed to suffer anymore!
Humane Society of the United States investigation reports horses in MX and CAN slaughterhouses are stabbed in the neck several times with a “puntilla knife” to sever their spinal cords, which paralyzes them, their legs are shackled together, and then they are hoisted, bled out, and cut apart… while still conscious and able to feel everything.
Video of a slaughterhouse (there are so many I don’t remember where this particular one was) where horses are crammed in small enclosures waiting to be killed. They are terrified and panicked. A big greasy bloody man standing about 20-30 feet away shoots them in the head with a rifle and they recoil, stunned. They keep moving around frantically trying to get away but he keeps shooting them in the head. Finally they go down. Unable to get up, they are dragged about 50 feet by a chain across the bloody concrete slaughterhouse floor. Their jugular veins are then sliced and then they are strung up, hanging from the rafters by one hind foot, and sliced vertically the length of their bodies. They bleed out and are cut apart, while still conscious. SO Vile.
Not every horse can be a big money winner, in fact most are not and are sent to slaughterhouses to be killed. Everyone is trying to figure out why so many horses are dying and suffering from catastrophic injuries that cause their career ending demise and eventually have to go to horrible slaughterhouses. These are some things I’ve tried to research to help with understanding as to why horseracing can NEVER get better and needs to be SHUT DOWN now:
Track surfaces vary from turf, dirt, and synthetic, some are cross-channeled and sloped for drainage, a very uneven/unstable running surface. Racehorses are constantly being moved from track to track which are all slightly different, and they become sore. A thousand-pound horse racing at 40 mph needs about a 3-4 inch hoof slide so it doesn’t come to an abrupt halt with each step. The hoof strikes the ground about 150 times per minute at the speed they race, more than two times per second, times how many minutes in the race, times how many races per day/week/month/year. Synthetic surfaces are not conducive to permitting hoof slide. Racehorses wear aluminum shoes with cleat-like toe grabs which also are not designed to allow hoof slide. All of this, as does racing in general, puts tremendous stress and cumulative wear and tear on horses’ legs and hooves leading to breakdowns.
Racehorses begin hard training at 18 months of age; they are still babies similar to a toddler. Their bones and joints are not developed or closed at that tender age, and yet they are beaten/whipped into submission to go faster and faster, to perform at the super athletic level of a SuperBowl. The whips are like fishing poles and are weighted. Pictures are available of the damage these repetitive aggressive overhead beatings do to the horse under the skin. The excessive concussive pounding to the legs causes numerous bone and soft tissue injuries which naturally results in a myriad of injuries including legs/hooves being snapped off and dangling. These, added to the other usual injuries of broken necks, severed spines, pelvic fractures, cardiovascular collapse, hemorrhaging… We need to SHUT HORSERACING DOWN and stop the never-ending suffering of these beautiful, sensitive, and majestic horses. I can’t even imagine what it’s like for a horse that has been racing for several years, giving all it had every time, and beaten/ground down its whole life, up to 73 times under the whip!!!! Death would be a welcome peace for those souls.
Racing heartbeat is 230 beats per minute (before all the drugs are administered); the heart does not have enough time to recover before the next heartbeat, so horse can collapse. The drugs are either injected into the jugular or the joints or tubed into the stomach. Some drugs of choice used to mask pain or enhance performance are: scopolamine, methocarbamol, phenylbutazone, adrenalin (they just spin around in their stalls wild and crazy-eyed), lasix (a diuretic causing dehydration and loss of electrolytes [feed and water are withheld on race day], Viagra, cocaine, pesticides (horses don’t eat jimson weed), rat poison, frog venom (reportedly 40 times more potent than morphine), cobra venom, elephant juice, all with side effects, and who knows what other “designer drugs” they use on these poor innocent victims.
The Breeders’ Cup is in two weeks, Nov 1st and 2nd, the BIG one = $$$, which racehorse people have been training for all year. I wish people would stop betting and see that they are the only ones supporting this vile industry and without them horseracing could not stand on its own, it’s so heavily subsidized and corrupt from within, and the carnage would finally have to stop. I’m praying for all the innocent, sweet, beautiful horses this day and every day who give their all to try to please their owners/trainers/jockeys or run as fast as they can to escape the fear, pain, and torture inflicted on them every second of every day of their lives.

Additionally, WSHR reveals that “rodeo cowboys” are included in the “Who We Are” of their organization. Given that rodeo activities deliberately inflict pain and violence on animals, it speaks volumes that the racing folks support it.
AND PROTECT THE HARVEST has filed a lawsuit to overturn the vote to end greyhound racing in Fl. on the grounds it is unconstitutional ! Overturning the will of the people is far closer to unconstitutional !!!

Also, since “rodeo cowboys” are included in the “Who We Are” of WSHR it follows they support the Suicide Race of the annual Omak Stampede. Horses are raced down a 62 degree embankment and as many as 4 horses were killed in one race. You can see the terror in the eyes of the horses.
Further, the racing business must be quite pleased with the support of the group. Wonder if group “members” ever think they could be exploited by the corrupt business. Some of the “members” don’t seem to be very knowledgeable or understand the gambling business is far more than the pageantry, the post parades and the big winners.
