My pops introduced me to the industry back in 2002, breeders cup,and I picked a winning exacta with a Longshot, volponi, on top. I visited the otb every 2 weeks in Oak Brook Il as I loved to handicap a race, but I stopped for a few years. Since 2012 I began with the hobby again, even after being informed of the cruelty. Well the last year my conscious has been getting to me and about 4-6 weeks ago I placed a Longshot at Saratoga in my exacta, even though he didn’t show much in the last few races. Well the number 4 I bet pulled up around the turn. I hit a point and came across this website. I had enough and being an animal lover, prior owner of a 17 yr old shih tzu, knew it was time to finally think of each and every horse instead of my selfishness. The thrill of handicapping is gone as I read your website daily. The death on tracks, in the stalls or slaughterhouses is reason why this industry must end. I came across information that South Korea has been purchasing horses at keenland sales or claiming horses from races. The horse will immediately run and if money isn’t won off for slaughter, with countless whippings to the head prior to the execution. These are 2, 3 yr olds and they were simply born to be beaten for a nickel. I looked up volponi recently and after making over 3 mil for his owners the last owner sold him to South Korea in 2005. He was unsuccessful in breeding and that is where his information ends. It’s apparent what happened to him, just like the ’86 kentucky derby winner, Ferdinand. If I ever have the urge to try and win a little money I will take up a few scratch offs.

It’s like a broken record day after day: “collapsed while training”, ” returned bleeding from nostrils”, “in distress, vanned off”, ” went wrong”, “DNF”, ” found dead in stall”, “catastrophic injury while training/racing”, ” colic”, “laminitis”…………. the lists never seem to end but they are always the same. And yet PETA and HSUS insist that this is not abuse, the apologists and supporters say that this is just the way this ” sport” is, and the betters simply don’t care.
But we care. And we will never stop caring, or mourning the loss of each and every one of these innocent equine angels.
Horse racing industry is cruel & run by evil greedy people who only care about themselves & how much money they can make. The horses go through hell. Training when unwell, beaten, drugged & slaughtered when not quite good enough to make money. The industry is corrupt & evil. It should be banned.

I don’t know rules and regulations for horse racing, but Stander Breeds use Lasix for the horses that bleed. It sounds like the groom should of contacted the trainer. And put the Horse in the cross ties it the vet got there. The owner can sue the Trainer and should. It is a shame that they do not take better care of them horses.
Horse racing must be stopped. Owners/trainers abuse them and push them so hard. All these deaths is inexcusable. Horses are magestic animals and should be treated that eay. Not just as miney makers and them get rid of them when they aren’t making money. This is inhumane!
Hope you all had a chance to witness Del Mar’s self-congratulatory spin on their “safest” season ever. They readily admit they’ve never gone a season without a racing breakdown until now — never mind they’ve got fewer horses in fewer races than ever before. They’re also claiming that two of their four admitted training dead shouldn’t count against them either, as it was “just a freak accident.”
Someone needs to remind them that Santa Anita engaged in the EXACT same crowing and back-patting on themselves just two seasons ago, when they “only” killed off 15-20 horses in one meet. This, immediately prior to their now-famous “disaster season,” was considered a glorious accomplishment. Now look at them; they’ve got the whole world watching as their dead pile up, they’re on the cusp of a ballot measure to eliminate their anti-sport completely, and they’ve succeeded in proving that their tone-deaf, stubborn, horse-killing arrogance will continue only until they are forced to stop racing completely.
So long to both of these death tracks in California.

Sickening to know there is a broken and possibly dead, beautiful horse behind the screen they do not want the public to see. Legalized murder and madness. That is American Horse Racing. 😢
