A 2-year-old suffered a “catastrophic injury” – fractured shoulder, says the LA Times – while training at Santa Anita Wednesday and has been euthanized. The California Horse Racing Board gave me the name of River Derby; however, that name does not show up on Equibase. Regardless, it’s another kill for this besieged track – the 33rd on the meet. A reminder though: Santa Anita averages 50 dead annually. In other words, no spike, no spate, no anomaly – just business as usual.
(The CHRB just got back to me; the correct name is Derby River, not – like the LA Times has it – the other way around.)

“Sudden” rash of deaths seems to be the prevailing theme on mainstream media.
Let’s be clear: horse racing has been killing racehorses since its inception.
Over the years, especially prior to social media, the horse racing industry was very good at hiding their dead and little to no statistics were garnered or released.
That all changed when Patrick started this blog in order to release the FACTS/STATISTICS that clearly dispel every single myth that this industry has been perpetrating on the public for years and STILL is.
On their mainstream pro-horse racing sites: they continue to blame PETA, “radical” animal rights groups, or anybody who opposes horse racing for the current situation that has finally shed light on the truth about racing.
When really they have themselves to blame – end of story – because they have resisted changes to protect the racehorses for years and they STILL do!
For example, head of the CHRB Rick Arthur “acknowledged that there was no consistent pattern with the initial cluster of 23 fatalities to suggest that therapeutic drugs were the cause of the spike.”
When we, the public, gets to see what exactly these reports say then we will have our own say because the racehorses certainly don’t.
However, the doping, Lasix, beating/whipping, intense confinement, subjugation, forced to run when sore/tired, little rest, “trainers” who have a long history of maiming/killing racehorses with no accountability etc etc. all contribute to their demise.
Furthermore, how the hell knows what effects the years of doping has had on the integrity of bones?
So to say that one or neither of these practices don’t contribute to the deaths are preposterous because they all do, or have some role to play in their demise, to what extent is questionable.

NO IT’S NOT BIZARRE – this is daily business as usual – this is horse racing.
So we must ask ourselves HOW MUCH LONGER ARE WE GOING TO ACCEPT THIS?
And what are ‘authorities’ in Arcadia doing?
It’s shame the city government is so bribed and/or inept that the civilized among us have to go to the state and senators.
What is wrong with the police force in Arcadia in not preventing all this rampant abuse.
The obvious corruption is sickening.

Tim, go back to school. It’s obvious you’re not very intelligent. They will teach you to read and write and you might even learn a little respect for this planet as well as moral common sense.
Maybe when you sober up, Tim, you’ll realize that people die every day, too.
They die in hospitals. They die in nursing homes. They die in vehicles. They die in restaurants, hotels, amusement parks, and even in their own beds.
That people die is not reason for others to kill them. Nor is it a reason to hasten their deaths by forcefully subjecting them to inhumane treatment, deadly drugs, and all the other horrors finally being exposed to the public at large by this site and others. Here’s hoping we’ll all live to see the end of horse racing in America.
