Through a FOIA request to the Maryland Racing Commission, I have confirmed the following kills on that state’s tracks in 2018. Please note, however, that when asked about “non-racing” deaths (colic, laminitis, etc.), the Commission responded thus: “We do not have records regarding off track horses.” So, obviously, this list is incomplete.

Such a disgrace. Abuse neglect and murder for entertainment. Sickening. I would expect this in a 3rd world country.. The level of ignorance by the public is unbelievable. The people who ignore and defend are all guilty.
Saratoga is so greedy. Nothing is ever enough. Money that’s all this is about. The racing killing season will be extended this year. I guess there weren’t enough dead horses last year. Maybe we can extend all year so there can be more deaths. It’s like birth control for horses. Everyone should be real proud. Murderers.
I am appalled at the abuse and lack of caring and kindness, for an animal who wasn’t born to race, be tortured, abused, and made to perform a job (thought could kill them) to make money off of them. All of you who do this act of torture, should be harnessed, ridden, slapped hard with a stick, and run until you collapse and die!!!!!!!!!!
This is the first time that I’ve heard about this situation in the horse racing world. I’m stunned by the treatment of these beautiful animals and the lack of care. All about greed. When are we ever going to wake up? Gandhi said we can tell how civilized a society is by the way it treats its animals.
The horse racing is not a sport it is just a way to make more money for these greedy breeders, owners, trainers, etc. There is little care shown for the quality of life for these poor horses. They are started way too young before their bones and bodies have developed and many never will be race horses as they were not bred for that. This abuse is just horrible and the losers doing this should all be shot dead right where they stand. These gorgeous animals do not deserve to have their short lives ended over the simple fact of how much money does this god damn race pay me to win and winning is all it is about – that is no sport – that is just total abuse. I hope they all rot in hell as they deserve nothing better. This horse racing should be eliminated and banned everywhere as the cruelty is just too insane. End it and get rid of these loser so called “horse people.”
