Had Chest “Impaled,” Killed, But Chart Merely Said “No Excuse” – Wyoming’s Dead, 2018

Through a FOIA request to the Wyoming Pari-Mutuel Commission, I have confirmed the following kills on that state’s tracks in 2018. Please note, however, that the Commission reported zero training deaths for the year – in a word, unbelievable.

First Prize Choice, June 30, Wyoming Downs R
“collision with rail, catastrophic head injury, possible injury prior to impact” (chart, by the way, said absolutely nothing, just that she “dueled, lost the nod” and finished 5th)

Fooled Again, July 1, Wyoming Downs R
“left front break”

Abit Cranky, July 7, Wyoming Downs R
“left front break”

Cd Otta Be Proud, July 15, Wyoming Downs R
“right shoulder”

Loyal Soldier, July 15, Wyoming Downs R
“left rear break”

Dashin Country Honey, July 22, Wyoming Downs R
“right front break”

Ruths Favorite, August 4, Wyoming Downs R
“right front knee break”

Separteen, August 12, Wyoming Downs R
“right shoulder”

Reaching Jupiter, August 31, Sweetwater Downs R
“right ankle”

Chloes Smoke N Fame, September 9, Sweetwater Downs R
“chest impalement” (chart said absolutely nothing, just that she had “no excuse” in finishing last – had her chest “impaled” but “no excuse”)

In addition, this still-very-much-active racehorse died on track grounds from what the industry craftily calls a “non-racing” cause. Technically true, perhaps, but morally he is no less a casualty of this vile business than the ones above.

Brindis Secret Life, July 1, Wyoming Downs
“found dead in stall – probable colic” (two years old, last raced two weeks prior)

  1. Thank you for delving into the records and exposing their lies by omission. Of course they don’t give details. They know these gorgeous animal slaves are run into the ground over and over. At best, racing horses do NOT live a happy life, and at worst, they die miserable, painful, unnecessary deaths. Down with the selfish, primitive greed and living off the backs of innocents — horse racing, dog racing, cock fighting, bull fights, rodeos, animal circuses, etc, etc, etc.
