NY’s Dead Racehorses, 2018 (The 98 That We Know About)

The following racehorses were killed racing or training on New York tracks in 2018. While reading, please bear in mind that this is surely but a partial reckoning as the Gaming Commission typically only discloses deaths occurring on-site (or occasionally at equine hospitals) and those within 72 hours of injury. And, of course, nothing from the many private training facilities strewn across the state. In short, it’s much worse…

  1. I counted NINETY-EIGHT (98) horses died in action whilst serving the horseracing industry in just this one state alone. And they were only the deaths that were reported and then disclosed.
Utterly sickening, shameful, indefensible, unacceptable, unjustifiable and unconscionable.

  2. Un Fricken believable! I cannot believe that number, this is horrible! We need some major press on this, I have sent it out to a lot of people I am continuing to do so. I sent it out to lady freethinker, big animal activist, I will continue to spread the word! This has to be stopped!

  3. Absolutely horrible what these horses have to go through for the entertainment of horse racing and betting. They barely live any of their life because they are worked over and injured frequently and the owners will not take on the burden of providing for a horse they spent money on to race to graze around their pastures to help them recover so they euthanize. The horses that broke free and ended up dying are heartbreaking. They wanted to get out and be free so they made a break for it :-( Horrible industry…
