Seminole Charlie was first put to the whip as a two-year-old in May of last year. Nine races later, he was still being run at the “maiden claiming” level, meaning he had yet to “win.” In that race, on April 22 at Tampa Bay, he “suddenly collapsed and died” of a “suspected cardiovascular event,” according to the FOIA document I’ve recently obtained. He had just turned three – a mere pubescent. In his last finished race, on April 1, he came in 11th of 12, 35 lengths back; over his final three races, he trailed by a combined 75 lengths. Master, abuser, complicit destroyer: Robert Smith.

If any sleep is lost, it is by those who abhor the cruelty and brutality the horses are subjected to. And, I might add, most of the sad, sad situations never see the light of day.

The New York Horsemen’s Group is having a memorial for racehorse executioner Rick Violette on Monday, November 6 from 5-7 pm at Belmont Park Cafe.
Well since I can’t attend I would like to extend my words of memorial to the late Rick Violette:
Mr. Violette for years you were cruel, and abusive to the many racehorses who found themselves enslaved in your racing stable.
You were heavily involved with the HBPA who controls almost every single bet in the country under the Interstate Horse Wagering Act and requires people like you to fill races, and increaase wagering profits.
Your records show that you were only too happy to oblige such a demand if it meant killing racehorses.
Nevertheless, you made a conscious decision to control or be involved with the millions in casino profits coming into the NY HBPA coffers while proclaiming to be a “champion” for racehorses.
After about 30 years in this role, preliminary estimates show that you rescued and rehomed about 56 racehorses while maiming and killing thousands so that would be 0.535 racehorses per year!
I suppose the 0.535 could account for one of the many limbs that you destroyed while filling races for the HBPA or perhaps other gambling entities, that you were directly involved with.
You met a horrific fate called cancer, but your fate was no different than the horrors you perpetrated on the very racehorses who met a horrific fate the day they stepped into your racing stable.
So I will raise a glass of mint juleps today, and even put on my fancy hat to salute a racehorse abuser, and killer who can no longer exploit racehorses.
