And, of course, I assume that “vanned off” is a euphemism for sold to kill pen buyer for auction to rescuers (lucky few) or,more likely, slaughterhouses.
Most horses that are vanned off die due to their injuries. Patrick’s FOI reports confirm this fact. A small percentage survive, some of whom resume racing, some of whom end up in the slaughterhouse and some of whom are rescued.
The horror story continues for these innocent noble horses……
It is not, Martha. It simply means the horse was unable to walk off under his own power, ambulanced back to the barn. Many, if not most, of the “vanned” do indeed end up euthanized; and, of course, slaughter is a distinct possibility for those who aren’t.
Martha, a horse can be vanned off dead or be vanned off alive.
Abolish horse racing. It is inherently cruel to horses. They are innocent victims of human greed, ego, and indifference.
This kind of brutality has to stop. It appears horses are running when they were not up to running. Animal abuse and torture. I think horses should not be used for this lousy way for owners to potentially make money even though their horses are injured. The horses who do race and don’t do a good job their they sent to the slaughter auctions. What a waste.

Totally disgusting 22 horses van driver off last week. No telling how many died or were euthanized. People are so disgusted how ruthless owners and trainers are. How about trying compassion and stop pushing th se poor horses beyond their limit.
All for the almighty dollar and egos. How pathetic
Horse Racing is a inhumane, cruel sport that only humans get enjoyment out of it. These young baby horses are run at 2 years old, their bones are not fully developed and strong yet. The drugging of these magnificient animals, to numb their pain and injuries is so blatantly evil I wish it was the jockeys, owners and trainers who are “vanned” off. Ban Horse Racing Forever, Save these beautiful animals.
