Deaths at Delaware, Finger Lakes, Saratoga

The Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission has disclosed the death of 5-year-old Saints Be Praised in the 2nd at Delaware Park August 23. Officially, “broke down at the ½ mile pole…humanely euthanized.”

Also: The NYS Gaming Commission released the names of two more dead – 3-year-old That’s Amore in the 9th at Finger Lakes August 23; 3-year-old That Mr. P from what is being called a “non-racing illness” yesterday at Saratoga. In her only other race, at Belmont in July, That’s Amore finished dead-last of 12, 28+ lengths back; in her death race, she did finish – last, almost 40 lengths in the rear. No word on nature of fatal injury. Prior to dying, That Mr. P had been put to the whip four times:

Gulfstream, April 23 – last, 23+ back
Belmont, June 1 – second-to-last, 28+ back
Belmont, July 16 – second-to-last, 13+ back
Saratoga, July 31 – 7th, 11+ back

By the way, that’s 18 dead at Saratoga, 77 at NY tracks overall.

This is horseracing.

  1. The only good thing about September’s arrival, is that the carnage at Saratoga’s track will be over. The vile treatment and deaths of the horses will continue at other locals. At least our worthless newspaper and tv coverage will end too. It appears the Post Star is a “bought” newspaper with no news about horse deaths at all. They won’t even print comments from readers— wow! So much for a free press and free speech— not here!
