“Protective Hold” Not Enough to Save Aragonite at Belmont

4-year-old Aragonite is dead after breaking down – a “musculo-skeletal injury,” says the Gaming Commission – in the 6th yesterday at Belmont. On the Equibase chart, aside from the usual garbage about “bad steps,” there was this:

“ARAGONITE…got put to a protective hold and was masterfully pulled up but unfortunately had to be euthanized on track.”

Hey, the jock did all he could. Vile.

  1. Another horrific end to a sentient being.
    Aragonite so sorry for you.
Horse racing is a cruelty circus, corruption pit, and death camp.
Racehorses are being maimed and/or killed on a daily basis.
I will continue to be a voice for these racehorses until every single racetrack is shut down.
The death knell on horse racing is ticking.
It’s just a matter of time before people stop supporting it, and with no financial support they will close.
