  1. Yet another blood bath at Aqueduct.
So sorry for all racehorses who died in the dirt for this pathetic, despicable business.
Then Governor Cuomo announced that they will financially assist the hell hole called Finger Lakes to the tune of $600,000 to $1 million this year.
He’s basically wrote the death ticket for more racehorses who will die there this race meet.
Without this financial support Finger Lakes would have shut down.
Gov. Cuomo’s office was quick to say that this financial support will be coming from the new casino down the road not from taxpayers money.
Technically true, but those casino profits would be better spent on essential community services.
Instead, it’s going to support the ongoing abuse, cruelty, and dying of sentient beings for a bunch of heartless hillbillies.
Demand that the profits from casinos go to the residents not to these animal abusers.
In the least, educate your friends about this horrific situation, peacefully demonstrate, and don’t bet.
We must dispel the myth of fancy hats, mint juleps, and party atmosphere.

    • And FInger Lakes is the end of the line for many horses when the season is over. It is not that far from the Canadian slaughter houses. Not many in the business will keep them over the winter and they are not competitive enrich to send south, even to Aqueduct !

    • Have you read of the declaration of the Kentucky legislature of horses as LIVESTOCK. Appalling to read this about animals who like ourselves are sentient beings that have feelings and are aware of their environment. A particular comment by an individual on the PR said that unless you don`t think of horses as livestock you will go bankrupt or loose all your monies earned in other businesses to support your equine operation. We have found that if you don`t listen to your heart and just go by #`s you will lose even more funds as almost all breeders won`t tell you the truth as to how really good their breeding stock is. With a comment as made by this breeder were glad that we never relocated to the Lexington, Ky area! We follow regularly on Facebook trainers /owners we used to ride horses for. Absolutely ridiculous to try to train horses in snow /ice so treacherous that they could not even get to our local track to feed / water the horses! We know from experience there are only 2 or 3 security guards all night for our local track which, thank goodness, for the horses sake is closed until late this year.We would hate to be in security at our local track with about 900 horses that were not being taken good care of because of the tough winter weather this year. The county where our only commercial track is located won`t allow anyone to sleep over night or at any other time in a tack room even in an emergency! There of course are NO dormitories as our Stronach operated track is to cheap build or supply any!

    • OMG! Horrific.
      Thanks for letting us know.
Any Frank Stronach owned race track eliminates the Replay videos of racehorses dying in the dirt or permits it to be published if the breakdown is out of the camera angles.
I can’t count the endless racehorses who were owned by Stronach (AKA Adena Springs) that died in the dirt at Woodbine and Ft. Erie racetrack, right before my eyes, many during training hours which were not reported at that time.
Every single person there was horrified, and most kept their mouth shuts knowing that there would be severe repercussions due to the enormity of his involvement (President of the Ontario Jockey Club, Owner of the biggest Canadian thoroughbred breeding operations, owner of Xpressbet, owner of gambling machines etc.)
Some of us asked one of his Trainers “what’s going on?”
He said “we have plenty more – don’t worry about it.”
He also owns Xpressbet – one of the biggest wagering outlets in the world.
Most of us know that this entire industry is built on filling races, and increasing wagering profits while obliterating protections for sore racehorses that are sent out every day for another round of abuse, and possible death.
There are ZIPPO repercussions for the people who have racehorses dying under their care.
If Stronach and his outfit really “cared” then they would have changed this long ago or stopped supporting this.
It seems that their operations are just another notch in this legitimized death camp.

  2. Yesterday at Turfway, race #3, 2007 gelding John Adams did not finish and was vanned off. Around 1:12 into the video, you see the “bad step,” and hear a brief silence from the race caller…but no mention of horse no. 6.

John Adams is/was still owned by his breeder, Ron Isbell, Jr. He was 6 years old before his first race in 2013. $47,657 earned in 30 starts.

    John Adams, another invisible victim.

  3. KENTUCKIANS and everyone else. PLEASE MAKE THE CALL.

Kentucky legislature setting the stage for the slaughter of horses with SB 139

“We are developing an intensive social media campaign to boycott Kentucky products such as the Kentucky Derby, the Kentucky Derby Festival, the Kentucky State Fair, the Kentucky Horse Park, Kentucky University basketball (i.e. UK, UofL, WKU) and Kentucky bourbon.”

“This campaign will hit the moment SB 139 makes it out of the State Senate.”

If you would like to help, please let us know.

With the new restrictions put on the live export of horses for slaughter to Canada looming at the end of the month, Kentucky legislators in favor of SB 139 are already counting the money.”

“We also know from recent experience that there have always been plans if horse slaughter were to return to US soil that horse meat would also be pedaled for institutional use such as prisons, mental institutions, nursing homes, elderly care facilities and even schools.”

“Say SB 139 has nothing to do with horse slaughter. It is still a terrible idea for horses to be re-classified as livestock. It would remove what few protections they have.”

“Stop them dead in their tracks.”

If you are a resident of Kentucky please telephone 1-800-372-7181 and state your opposition to SB 139. Make your argument against it from any of the information above.

    We must act quickly.”

    • Thanks for posting this Kathleen.
Kentucky State Senator Robin Webb is behind this potential horse massacre.
In the least, it will strip most animal cruelty laws from racehorses in Kentucky – as if it weren’t bad enough.
Senator Robin Webb is an ardent supporter of SORING which is the deliberate cruelty, and abuse perpetrated on Tennessee Walking Horses to obtain a high gait.
She was actually found to have violated the anti-soring act.
Equally disturbing, she sent her horses to one of the most notorious horse soring Trainer who is known for implementing extreme cruelty devices on the horses to get the “high step” gait.
He was caught on tape actually BEATING a horse in the face while the horse was tied up.
The horse was so distraught from ongoing abuse that he didn’t want to be touched.
That’s just fine with Ms. Webb as she actually DEFENDED this horse beater saying that the tape was taken out of context.
Does she actually think that people are as heartless, and stupid as she?
Ms. Webb actually said “These are animals that are very dangerous,”
      Wrong Ms. Webb.
There’s only one dangerous animal in this entire scenario and that’s people like you.
It’s also important to note that she’s an ardent supporter, and member of a group that is totally against animal rights groups, and EVERYTHING that they fight for.
“The Sportsmen and Animal Owners’ Voting Alliance (SAOVA) is a nationwide, nonpartisan group of volunteers seeking to elect politicians who will oppose the “Animal Rightist” (AR) threat to our rights as Americans.”
The Animal Rightist refers to any animal rights group that protect animals from egregious acts of violence.
They are perfectly fine with maiming, and killing animals with no interference from outside organizations.
      She supports this as well.
She is a religious Christian bible fundamentalist that has been heard in certain circles saying that humans are superior over animals according to bible scripture.
Ms. Webb there is a special place in hell for people like you.
With people like this in the Senate you can expect more racehorses in Kentucky to be abused and die, you can also expect ZERO accountability with no legal repercussions whatsoever.
Racehorses dying in the dirt in the “horse capital of the world” is just fine by many people there, and that’s why the rest of our animal loving country needs to STOP supporting this carnage.
The climate in Washington is anti-animal, anti-environment, but this will change, and when it does we will restore the rights of animals and our environment plus ensure that people like her don’t get into office.

      • We have NEVER agreed with the idea of human dominance or dominion over the earth! Sure glad she is not our state senator!! Our state and US senators are a whole lot more progressive than she is. By all means boycott all Derby products and Kentucky items until they get the message. We will!

      • TY for educating us about this Robin Webb. I’m so disgusted. She may claim she’s a “Christian” but she clearly is NOT – not an individual who abuses other living creatures and believes she is “superior” over them.

    • Thank you Kathleen for posting this and thank you Gina for your comment.
We know the slaughter issue is there and is just waiting to erupt . And now it has, and in Kentucky of all places !!
However, I’m not surprised since that state ranks near the bottom in terms of animal cruelty laws. I always felt it was because of the horse industry and not wanting to hold it accountable for any mistreatment of horses.
Looks like Webb is the new Sue Wallis.
Also, I believe Oklahoma allows slaughter thanks to Skye O’Neil , Oklahoma House of Rep., The bill was signed into law by Gov. Mary Fallin. O’Neil’s family runs a huge livestock business in the state and stood to profit from the slaughter.
This will be a hard and long battle.

PS I bieve Senitor Mitch McConnel of Kentucky voted against funding USDA inspections and, therefore, slaughter. That was around the time of last overt push for slaughter led by New Mexico and attorney Blair Dunn. Always wondered who was paying Dunn ??!

      • Rose states “Always wondered who was paying Dunn??!”
        Good point, but here’s another.
State Senator Robin Webb REFUSED to disclose who is financially supporting her.
While most other Senators throughout the U.S disclose who is financially backing them and posts this on their website Ms. Webb refused to do this.
Thus far, nobody knows where she is getting her financing.
Perhaps horse racing funding is lurking in her background?
Better still, after a racehorse dies in the dirt they can surpass many steps and just send them for meat.
BARN TO PLATE right in the USA.
Of course the lack of medical records and the secrecy of vets administering doping cocktails with BUTE, LASIX etc. can possibly be advertised as a delicacy for Ms. Webb and her cohorts.
For somebody who has no problem intentionally inflicting pain on her horse AIR FORCE ONE (according to USADA records) she can pass the horse meat from the slaughter house into the super markets so that kids can eat it without knowing it’s horse meat.
The next thing you know American kids will be growing manes and tails!
So it will actually be financially beneficial for the horse racing industry when racehorses die in the dirt because now they can capitalize on their corpses.
Think about the BILLIONS in profit!
Disgusting thoughts that are very real under this SB 149 Bill and Ms. Webb seems hell bent on ensuring the massive suffering of horses whether it’s via SORING, eliminating legal protections by classifying horses as livestock, and ensuring that dead racehorses are sent to the slaughterhouse for meat.

      • TY too, Rose…knowing individuals like this exist and cause such harm to animals is incredibly disheartening. But is why our voices are needed ALL THE MORE.

  4. Yes, Gina,, always follow the money trail it reveals a lot.
Like Skye O’Neil , Senator Webb is funded by the pro-slaughter people. These people hide behind those they help elect to do their dirty work. Of course it helps when those running for office have a vested interest like Wallis and O’Neil did.
The safe food act needs to be passed. It has been languishing forever. I wonder why ?
I called Senator Gragham’s office in support of the act. Others should call their Senators and voice their support. We need to do whatever we can to stop what horses are forced to endure .

The sponsor of SB139 is Robin Webb who has anti horse and pro slaughter connections and has been cited herself more than once for abusing Tennessee Walking Horses called horse soring.

Kentucky State House Committee on Agriculture set to hear SB139 March 8 at 9 am

    Talking Points

    • Kentucky is at the very bottom of the 50 states when it comes to protecting animals against cruelty and abuse. The Thoroughbred industry is often cited as the reason. The perception is that they want to be able to do virtually anything they like to horses without interference.

    • Reclassifying horses as livestock will reduce what pitiful protections they have as domestic animals which are already embarrassingly few.

    • Reclassifying horses as livestock is a stepping stone to allowing for their slaughter in the US. It is illegal to kill domestic animals for their meat.

    • With the current political climate in Washington DC, US horses may lose their current protection from being slaughtered on US soil.

    • The sponsor of SB139 is Robin Webb who has anti horse and pro slaughter connections and has been cited herself more than once for abusing Tennessee Walking Horses called horse soring.

    • The knowledge of this bill is sparking rage across the country and it is putting Kentucky (who brags it is the horse capital of the world) in a very bad light with calls to boycott the State’s activities and products.

    The horses thank you!

Platinum Ticket’s Final Ride tells the story of the life and tragic fate of this beautiful horse – from winning purses at the racetrack and ribbons in the jumper show ring – to his ruthless sale after his performance declined.

Platinum Ticket, once a successful and well-cared for Thoroughbred racehorse, who later transformed into an successful show jumper, was discovered by Animals’ Angels investigators in a kill pen at the Knoxville Livestock Auction, barely alive, with a bullet in his head.

    Platinum Ticket’s Final Ride
Animals’ Angels produced the documentary exposé “Platinum Ticket’s Final Ride” to spark public outrage and bring an end to the on-going, appalling treatment of helpless animals at the hands of livestock auction employees and horse traders.

Fully aware of his appalling condition, horse trader Jacob Thompson purchased the Thoroughbred at the Knoxville sale two weeks previous. Instead of providing medical care as needed, he and his partner, Tara Sanders, left the poor animal unattended at the auction site in a manure covered pen for two full weeks!

Even before knowing the identity of the gaunt grey horse that they found in such horrific shape, Animals’ Angels representatives documented his condition and called law enforcement, seeking to hold the auction and the owner accountable for such obvious neglect. To no avail.

Sonja Meadows of Animals’ Angels expressed her frustration at the seemingly deliberate lack of enforcement:

“This was an open and shut cruelty case against not just the livestock auction in Knoxville, but also the horse trader who claimed ownership of Platinum Ticket – namely Jacob Thompson, who along with help from Tara Sanders, his long-time girlfriend, runs the Thompson Horse Company in Pitkin, Louisiana for Jacob’s father Gary Thompson. Yet the police did nothing. If not now, when? What must we show to induce the police to do their jobs?”

Like tens of thousands of American horses each year, Platinum Ticket was dumped unceremoniously into the horse slaughter pipeline – a cruel road which usually leads to a brutal death in the slaughterhouses of Mexico or Canada.

This predatory business is largely unknown to most U.S. citizens because its practices are deliberately hidden from the general public. The gruesome goal: wholesale slaughter of horses for the purpose of exporting horsemeat to Europe.

With sentient beings as their stock-in-trade, livestock auctions dot our nation’s countryside from coast to coast. Every state is home to at least one auction, and Animals’ Angels makes it our mission to visit them all.

During an April 2015 visit to Knoxville, an Animals’ Angels investigator documented Platinum Ticket’s horrific condition in one of the auction pens.

Platinum Ticket’s Final Ride, produced by Emmy Award-winning Kramer Communications and scripted by award-winning television and documentary writer Lisa Feit is a no-holds-barred documentary that pieces together Platinum Ticket’s journey, all the way from his once-pampered home to his ignoble and cast-aside fate in the pens of the Knoxville livestock auction.

SB139 passes the Kentucky State House Ag Committee 15-0-0
Posted on Mar 8, 2017 by VGrF
FRANKFORT, KY — Despite the news about the existence of SB139 going viral with people all across Kentucky contacting the State Legislature opposing the measure, this morning the bill passed out of the State Agricultural Committee unanimously with a vote count of 15-0-0.

SB139 endangers what protections horses currently have in Kentucky against cruelty and abuse by lowering their status from a domestic animal to livestock. It also opens the door to horse slaughter in Kentucky should that return to US soil.

This move is strongly supported by the agricultural and horse racing communities in Kentucky who already treat horses with shocking disrespect.

The next step is to send it to the full Kentucky State House for a vote. If SB139 passes there the bill will be sent to the Governor to sign into law.

Kentuckians, please continue to speak out against this bill.

The horses are counting on us to defend them to the final minute. And the fight won’t even be over then.

Feel like sipping some Kentucky bourbon? Feel like watching or betting on the Kentucky Derby? Or buying anything from Kentucky with this going on?

Ask the people of Tennessee what horse soring has done for their economy. Just saying.

This experience has this positive outcome. It has convinced us even further that the way forward to protect Kentucky horses is to challenge horse racing with a major campaign which we have been putting together since last Fall.

If you have been following us on Tuesday’s Horse you know that it’s “March Against Horse Slaughter”.

Part of it has involved a Kentucky State bill demoting the horse from domestic animal to livestock in virtually all Kentucky State statutes.

We spent time in Frankfort fighting against it but the horse racing industry has been too powerful for us. The fact we were late to the game didn’t help. This bill was introduced quickly, rushed through and kept under the public radar for as long as possible.

Because of your support in the thousands, we may have defeated it if we were quicker off the mark.

Nevertheless, we made a lot of noise and rattled more than one Kentucky lawmaker. They are still experiencing the shockwaves from the strong outpouring of support for the horses — and against Kentucky.

The Governor’s Office has already heard about it. We thank our many vocal followers like you for that!

This experience has this positive outcome. It has convinced us even further that the way forward to protect Kentucky horses is to challenge horse racing with a major campaign which we have been putting together since last Fall.

We have mentioned it to you briefly. It is called, “You Bet. They Die.” We are going after the gambler. If horse racing gambling falls, horse racing falls. It loses the revenues that keeps it going and impacts every single aspect of the Thoroughbred industry not just in Kentucky but throughout the country.

Horse racing US style results in abuse and death. Excessive drugging is destroying the viability of the breed resulting in even more fatalities. Two year old horses are breaking down and dying during training before they ever make it to a race.

There are plenty of things for gamblers to gamble on. They don’t need to gamble on horse racing. We are going to make it very unappealing and hopefully uncomfortable for them to do so.

    1. Please help us fight the good fight for racehorses and all horses by continuing to support us on social media, viewing, liking, commenting, re-tweeting, sharing and so forth.
