Benjamin Zeno-trained Georgia’s Genie is dead after “falling” in the 2nd at Delta yesterday. She was five. Later in the American-Racing night, Russell Davis-trained Pure Habit “broke down” in the 7th at Charles Town. Also dead. He was four.
This is horseracing.
Sickening. A license to kill. If they are not killing, then beating with a whip is the order of the day. After the profit slave has faithfully generated income – then possibly a kill auction, and subsequently the slaughterhouse.
This industry has proven its inability to prevent maiming, and deaths of their participants – both equine and human.
What I find particularly disturbing is their arrogance in the face of self-regulation.
That’s why I don’t support it.
I don’t know of any other industry in this country who conducts business this way. Do you?
