  1. Empty Backfield (on this casualty list) was just three years old…a bay colt, bred by Brereton Jones.

On November 1, Empty Backfield came in last, over 20 lengths behind (at Parx).

On November 14, he broke down and was euthanized (at Parx).

His trainer – Juan C. Vazquez.

Vazquez has been ruled off a number of Mid-Atlantic tracks for violations, some of which include medication violations.

Parx and its director of racing, Sam Elliott, welcomed cheater and horse abuser Juan C. Vazquez to Parx with open arms after he was denied stalls at Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia tracks.

    Now, Empty Backfield is dead.

  2. On this list of racing casualties, Citi’s Ablaze…he was nearly a slaughter casualty, as well.

Citi’s Ablaze, a 2012 bay gelding, raced 7 times in his short “career”…0-0-1 for approximately 4K. In his last race at Mahoning Valley Race Course, he finished 6th for $85 for his owner/trainer SHANE MURPHY…it was a maiden claiming ($7500) and the little three-year-old needed to be vanned off after he finished the race.

Citi’s Ablaze was found in a kill pen several days ago. His owner/trainer, as previously stated – SHANE MURPHY. Also found in a kill pen just several days ago, the mare Congressionalbust – owner/trainer SHANE MURPHY.

Citi’s Ablaze and Congressionalbust – last raced Nov 10 and Nov 17 (respectively) at Mahoning for SHANE MURPHY…then found with a KB just weeks later.

    Both are rescued.

What racehorse of SHANE MURPHY’S might be the next one to be dumped at an auction or go directly to a kill buyer?…

-the 2011 dark bay gelding LOOSE BIRDIE last ran for SHANE MURPHY (owner/trainer) at Mahoning Valley Race Course on December 7…just 12 days ago. In this race (maiden claiming-5K), Loose Birdie came in 60 lengths behind. On Nov 4, the four-year-old came in last of 12, “through early”, 28 lengths behind. Nov 23, 7th of 12 and “never a threat”. And to repeat, his last race on December 7, last of 11 and SIXTY LENGTHS behind.

-or maybe Miss Tricky Me, trained by SHANE MURPHY, will soon be standing in a kill pen. This 2006 mare with 63 starts ran for trainer SHANE MURPHY and owner David George on December 13 at Turfway. Miss Tricky Me finished 10th of 11 for $50. That little check doesn’t bode well for this 9-year-old mare.
