I have confirmed that 7-year-old Crazy Bear was euthanized after breaking down in last Thursday’s 4th at Charles Town. The Alex Correa-trained mare was being raced for the 62nd time. This is horseracing.

I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that on big stakes nights they put away the bad (horses with possible underlying injuries) horses and race the good horses so there are no breakdowns in front of a large crowd. Because every time I have went to this track, I have never witnessed a breakdown (hope I never do).
On a much lighter note, I have amazing news. Europe has banned horse meat from Mexico!

Ahh yes…… yet another SUMMIT FOR RACEHORSE WELFARE to be seen to be doing something about it.
Unfortunately nothing is ever done for the miserable lives these horses endure.

Yes, Carolyn. Endless talk but where is the action ?? All these task forces, summits and whatever, but the horses continue to suffer and die.
There is no “action” Rose Smith… ever. Nobody wants to talk about the damage done by training meds, nobody wants to look at the mountains of reliable data showing that the overwhelming majority of catastrophic injuries were both predictable and preventable, nobody is telling the truth about the reality of modern racing: better winning through chemistry. It’s sickening and depraved. P.S. Thank you Patrick for doing your best to let the world know what’s really going on. Do you want a complete list of the dead at Charles Town for 2009 through 2013? Let me know via Facebook if you do — don’t send a PM (I get so many and don’t always read them — post a comment or have someone else do so on my FB page). I’ve got the vet notes and have researched all the details which clearly show why they died and why they did not NEED to die…
I will, Linda. Thank you.
