J.B.’s Marquis Dead at Louisiana

6-year-old J.B.’s Marquis, trained and owned by Eric Nelson Jr, is dead after breaking down in yesterday’s 5th race at Louisiana Downs. In his two previous starts, both under Nelson, the gelding was distanced/DNF on April 12th at Oaklawn, and was “never close” finishing 7th in a $5,000 claiming race at Louisiana on May 3rd. Perhaps, Mr. Nelson, your charge was trying to communicate something. Now, silence.

  1. Another abused disposable in this illustrious “sport”. Oh, I forgot, “accidents” happen !
What do the “defenders” have to say about soo many “accidents”.

I’m so sorry nobody listened to you J.B’s Marquis.

  2. There will not be 200 comments on this post…on the tragic death of this racehorse. The millions who watched the TC races never heard of J.B.’s Marquis. They don’t see all of the “J.B.’s Marquis'” of the racing industry…the horses that rack up 30,40,50 races in 3, 4, or 5 years. The horses that become “worth” so little that risking their lives on the track is a gamble their connections don’t hesitate to take. But J.B.’s Marquis experienced the pain of his injuries just as acutely as Intense Holiday did his broken leg and California Chrome, his grabbed quarter. And as all creatures desire, J.B.’s Marquis wanted to live.

I’m so damn sorry J.B.’s Marquis. RIP.
