Order of Magnitude Dead, Others Likely Too

During Keeneland’s 5th race Friday afternoon, three-year-old Order of Magnitude “went wrong nearing the furlong marker, was pulled up and vanned off.” Racehorse Memorial reports that the colt fractured sesamoids and was euthanized. Saturday at Delaware Park, Paskha, a three-year-old filly, “broke down and fell in deep stretch [of 4th race].” Sunday at Albuquerque, five-year-old My Sweet Magnolia “was pulled up in distress” in the 6th race. Also on Sunday, two horses were “vanned off” at Belmont (Rewrite History, two, race 6; Trusted Choice, four, race 11) and one at Santa Anita (Smogcutter, two, race 4).

  1. And the carnage continues unabated. So what do they care. After all, plenty more where they came from. The sad part is that there will not be any end to this until it is no longer a money making endeavor.

    • Rose, I couldn’t agree with you more. September 1st at Beulah Park – two horses euthanized on the track and one vanned off. Just another day in racing!

  2. We traveled from Michigan enjoying the opening of Keeneland and were struck by this tragedy. So very, very sad. Feeling somber and thinking of the Columet Farms. So sorry for your loss.

  3. I am saddened by the amount of incidents and the fact it remains acceptable; as someone said earlier… “just another day in racing”… I cannot comprehend the amount of disrespect for these amazing and innocent athletes, by allowing this to go on… It is shameful this is tolerated and I am appauld standards and practices protecting these innocent animals are not either enforced, reviewed, and updated on their behalf; for, as an owner and trainer it is YOU they count on to be ensuring THEIR best interest is always first…
